GH1 Fast turnaround event. Use GH1 and PS3 for playback?

I've got an event coming up in a few weeks. Very small budget and will involve shooting races lasting around 20min. out on a beach. I'll need to hand over the footage from each competition, for playback in a tent immediately following each race. I'll then be off to catch the next event and so on.

I'm thinking of using my GH1 and a PS3 for this and handing over the cards to the guy running the projector/display. I presume this will be pretty straight forward, but not sure as I've only ever done similar stuff with live mixes, or delivered edited highlights.

Any words of warning/suggestions would be more than welcome. I think a P2 cam and deck for playback would work, but I don't know if I'll have budget to hire these.
Cheers

I have a cheap $399 Intel B90 laptop and windows media player plays back Max Lat clips fine. In fact WMP plays back stock or hacked avchd footage the best of any player. For windows at least, don't know about Macs.

Ultimately do you already have a PS3 and if so, shoot a few test clips and see if they play back.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Yeah we have a PS3 and really the reason for going to this over a laptop, is hopefully less for the guy at the tent to worry about. I think we'll have a Macbook Pro or Air to use anyway, but I was thinking ( or hoping ) that PS3 playback might be a bit more foolproof.

I thought I was the only one using Sony PS3 for GH2 files. Go w/the ps3! I used to go with macbook hook up to tv but Apple laptops get really hot and not suitable for long play. Small and light laptop are not good for cumbersum playback.

Thanks for the feedback. Looks this is now going to be a live mix, but worth bearing in mind for the future. Cheers

You can also get a $100 panasonic BLU-RAY / DVD player that has an SD card or usb input and it will play the files beautifully. Cheapest solution.

Mac have no decent AVCHD playback options (especially for hacked footage). Windows Media Player has worked like a champ for me, but QuickTime doesn't even support the file format (OSX Mountain Lion may fix that, but I haven't personally tested it out) and the OSX version of VLC plays fine as long as you don't scrub, but then goes slideshow city if you do.

The AVCCAM importer does allow hacked files to playback in finder under Snow Leopard. I don't think it's officially supported and occasionally stalls, so probably not a great solution for display playback.
