fast to slow - need info THANKS

I need to shoot a scene that goes fast then suddenly drops down to very slow motion then back to fast. I'm on the HVX200A should I over crank and under crank my shots or should I shoot reg and use a software to do the motion that I need? Has anyone done this with their HVX200A? If so can you post some footage? I'm in Gisborne New Zealand filming and have one scene coming up that I need this effect for. Thanks

Others may know a trick or have a magic scene file but although the HVX can over and under crank I don't think it can alter framerate during filming. You could do it in post by either speeding up slow footage (slow mo will look good, regular speed may be a little off) or applying a slow mo effect to regular footage (software guesses the in-between frames, slow mo won't look as good). Alternatively you can forgoe the specific technique you're wanting to do and achieve the same effect with creative editing (maybe insert the slow mo framed slightly closer and/or from below while maintaining continuity of action). If you get all the other details right for this shot such as slow motion beads of sweat flying off the actors, it could be as or even more effective than the shot you want to copy. That said, if it can be done in camera I'd like to know too.

The HVX can do variable frame rates -- you'll want to OVERcrank for this (50 fps when shooting 25p) -- but it can't RAMP the frame rates up and down. If you want ramping, you'll have to do it in post.

You can do it with a velocity envelope in Vegas. In theory I suppose Twixtor works better, but I've never used it.
