Ok so i was wondering how do you do the effect where you have one object such as a person going in regular motion, and then everything around him going in super fast motion?

Fast Slow Motion Same Time

Ok so i got my Hvx and i might be doing a small music video, and i was wondering how do you pull off the effect where you have one thing moving at regular motion, such as a person and everything around him going in either a fast or slow motion, thanks!

Greenscreen/compositing. :0

You can do it that way or......

Try shooting 720 24PN at a frame rate of 12fps. Play back your audio at 1/2 the normal speed while shooting. Your talent can lip sync to the slowed down track and move in a "slo-mo" style. Have the background people walk briskly without necessarily running. Play back your clip at normal 24 with the audio track played back at normal speed. I believe this should approach the effect you are looking for. You can shoot at 720 30PN at 12 fps but it's harder to do the math to figure out the proper playback speed for the audio on set. (I know it's easy, I just don't have a calculator at the moment)

Their are a few ways to pull this off. You could greenscreen it, but assuming your shooting on DV, i'm sure the results wouldnt be too satisfying. Also, you could rotoscope the subject, which would be the most convincing method, but also be the most tedious and time consuming. The "Allstate Auto Insurance" car crash commercial provides a good example of what your talking about, except the other way around...

The other way of doing it... and I've messed around with this with some great results...

Shoot in the interval setting at something like 1 frame every 16 frames... or experiment with whatever interval works for you...

Then have your talent occupy the same area of the screen and to do the movements in super painfully slow motion... Looks really pretty good and such.

I'm hoping to do a timelapse of a kungfu/Tai Chi form this way. The form takes an hour to perform and the movements are super super slow.. often taking minutes to execute. I'm hoping to do this next... on a beach or at a lake with everything in the background... Coordinated with a dolly move, coud be quite interesting...

good luck
