fast shutter weird thing

I was foolin around with my cam.

Raise the shutter to 1/500 and iris is OPEN. All this was indoors in my living room with florecent light
Eveything looks kinda dark of course
but the thing is, everything kinda shifts from an orangy warm look to a bluish cool look,
as though the white balance is shifting by itself, gradually shift from one to another...

did I press something wrong?

Re: fast shutter weird thing

Probably not, it's probably an interaction between the hyper-short shutter speed, and the cycling of the fluorescent lights.

High shutter speeds can be a no-no when working with fluorescents or mag-ballast HMI's. Flicker-free ballasts should eliminate the problem.

I can't answer this, but I do have a friend with a 100 that does weddings and he has experienced this same phenomenon. We have yet to isolate why he gets it and we don't...

Re: fast shutter weird thing

Was a coorect WB done? Is there any other light source pouring in? (From outside?). Do you have AUTO EXPOSURE on?

Re: fast shutter weird thing

its the combo of flourescents and the shutter. as posted above: mixing the two are a no-no.

the other POSSIBLE explanation is ATW (auto-tracing white balance) if its turned on, could be making things worse....
