FAST SDHC Memory for the EX1

From that 'other' forum we saw Paul's photo of the internals of the Kensington reader. It wasn't hard to find the details of the controller chip

http://www.genesyslogic.com/_en/product_01_1.php?id=26

Not suprisingly this chip states it supports SDHC even though the Kesington packaging doesn't.

This little chip even supports being flash upgraded! Not that we need any improvements and I wouldn't hold my breath on ever seeing one released.... (although maybe that is a something that could fix that Mac sleep problem....)

I've emailed Genesys Logic asking for a list of other card readers that are based on their chip. I havn't found these types of companies very helpful with such info in the past but there is no harm in trying...

Hey Steve, I had a big laugh when I saw you had to edit (or had it edited on you) the post on that other forum to remove reference to my name! It really demonstrates that other admins rather lack of maturity and is a real slap in the face of his contributors, clearly he has no respect for them.

If that other is who I think it is, yes, the site admin is very vindictive and unforgiving. Ce la vie!

Do you know how the SD card mounts in the 18 in 1? They don't list on the spec sheet which controller th 24 in 1 uses but I assume its a different one again.

APIOTEK 18 In 1 Express Card Reader

I've got one of these on order to test, if anyone knows they don't work let me know! Also the 24 in 1 version "appears" to not swallow the card fully, but it is mighty hard to tell.

Paul, I read a review on the 24-in-1 and it said the SD cards stick out.

Also, the 18-in-1 is a couple years old now. Let us know if the memory door closes and the card works.

Hey guys, leaving the door opened isn't a problem with dust?

Is Sony selling the hard disk drive without any additional protection (around the SxS adaptor?) to prevent dust?

Well, if you leave two cards KxS or SxS in with the door open, there won't be a direct opening to the contacts.

The only people concerned about the door not closing are Amateurs. Almost every memory card, battery, control panel, cable door I've ever seen on any digital camera has been a wimpy non sealed plastic floppy thing. If you want to seal it up.... Tape it! They been doing it for years....

I am going to ask our mechanical workshops to have a look at taking the door off, and then making a new sliding cover that will accomodate the reader and card, maybe of perspex so that it is seethrough.

True. Just think of all the things you plug into the camera: XLR, headphone, firewire, HD-SDI, LANC, etc. You actually have to open the "doors" to use those connections, so they are all exposed to the elements during use.
