FAST SDHC Memory for the EX1

B&H have gone from 'Place Backorder' to 'Notify Me When In Stock' with a December ETA

It seems that everyone is out of stock on the Kensington 7-1 reader. Might be a very bad news, they might be coming out with a new design reader for the PC people. It might not work with the Sony EX cameras. It just seems that the readers that works with the PC does not work well with the Sony EX

It seems that stock comes and goes very quickly so I wouldn't be worried just yet. I would worry more if B&H suddenly removed it from their online catagolue or listed it as discontinued. The fact they have a Dec ETA implied Kensington are likely comming to the table and producing some more.

I just got 2 Kensingtons from Micro Center. They seem to have them in stock somewhere. I ordered online from the Orange County CA store but they actually shipped from somewhere in the midwest. www.microcenter.com

What do you guys think of this as an off site backup for KxS?

Stick one of Intels new SATA 2.5" Flash drives and you have a very robust field backup unit for KxS.

Try and do that with SxS... (although through the 'ATG" port may just work to back up SxS with the Sony USB SxS reader. Does that SxS USB reader require drivers with XP/Vista or is it recognised as a standard mass storage device and work without drivers?

ok, i tried searching for a thread to the KxS system's workflow. no luck. can someone please forward/post a link to the KxS workflow? do you treat the reader like a SxS card or do you solely work with the SD card when ingesting into a cpu/nle?

thanks in advance.

Treat the reader like SxS. Done.

Its up to you and dependant on your equipment etc

You can put a SD card in each reader and treat it as a SxS or use a SD card reader on a PC etc, its just data on a flash drive anyway you look at it.

:2vrolijk_08: -- Here's an interesting note: I picked up the Scandisk 8Gig. SDHC memory to do a test on my EX-1 for the first time. On the way out of the store, I saw they had the Lexar 8Gig. on close-out sale for $24,99. What the Hell, I bought one; if nothing else, I could use it for back-up files for $24.99, since these cards were only class 2. When I got home I said let's give it a try in the EX-1; well, they work! I could have been pistol whipped -- Class 2, HQ 1080p and 720p, too? I can over-crank them at 720p,24 to 31frames, which gives enough "lee-way" to be fairly reliable. What a crazy mixed up SDHC memory world we live in! I will do some more testing, but in the meantime I am headed back to the store to pickup the last of the close-out Lexars. -- Carl

600 Clip Limit???????????

600 Clip Limit???????????

So I got a Kensington card reader and 16GB Ultra II card. I have been trying to torture test this setup. I got "restore media" errors with a Kingston card when doing quick records (e.g. many clips of very short duration in rapid succession). So as a test, I have been doing the same thing with the Sandisk card. On the positive side, I recorded 600 short clips in a row with no errors. However, even though I recorded only 24 min of video (on a card that I had previously recorded 58 min and 52 sec on) I got a media full message. Is this a card limit or a software limit? Anyone else have this result?

It probably has something to do with the 600 small clips you recorded. I have never had an issue with record time on the SDHC.

I've been using the Kensington non stop for two months and have never had an error.

Early on, we did a lot of tests with different SDHC cards and discovered the SanDisk Ultra II 15MB/s and new Exteme III 30MB/s SDHC cards work great.

I believe it something to do with the number of clips. Has anyone experienced this with a SxS card? Has anyone else experienced this with a SDHC card? Holding up well otherwise. Trying very hard to get it to fail. All good so far.

Yes, even in the manual it tells you about a limit to the number of clips on a card and it may report as full due to clip count when there is lots of free capacity.

This is a reason to be happy with 16GB cards vs 32GB, but then again it is very rare to approach anything near that clip count in actual shooting conditions. Also, it happens just as much with SxS as KxS.

<--this is what I wanted to know. Cam limitation not KxS limitation.

Thanks!

This system seems to be holding up well (durable, consistent, reliable) under my torture testing. Nice discovery. Good work people!

Considering getting 15 EX1s. Could not afford with SxS media, but can afford with KxS media. Thoughts?

Amazing, this is why Sony should be happy about KxS, it will sell them lots more cameras. They should have done it themselves some time ago.
