FAST SDHC Memory for the EX1

Stevet, the SSD cards you are referring to are only MLC version not SLC, which are faster.
If someone tells me that leaving the door open for long time on PMW-EX1 is not an issue then I think you’re playing with fire. I can think of few situations where I would not use my camera without door closed (outdoor and dusty environment).
As I said, I am getting a few samples from a manufacture this week where memory card can be fully inserted into express card adapter and I’ll let you know soon as completed the tests.

I'll make two more comments on this, and then I'm done with it.

1. Sony's OWN solution for long form recording do not allow the door to close. If this was going to be an issue, either Sony would not have done it, or they would expect warranty issues.

2. Examine the door. It does not seal. There is no o-ring or gasket. Not even a simple piece of felt. The gap in the camera body right in front of the door will be FAR more of an issue in dusty conditions, and that one cannot be closed because it is a cooling vent. I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill with this argument. If you are truly concerned, put a rainslicker or dust cover over the camera. That should solve it.

But it's your camera, and I certainly understand not wanting to take it into harsh environments unprotected. I feel the same way about mine, but the door is a red herring. Just not a real problem to my mind, and apparently to Sony's as well.

In real dusty situations, I'll use my SxS.
No big deal.

If you've read our posts, we've tried MANY of these "available" expresscard readers.
Be prepare to return them. I found two that allow the door to close with the SDHC card.
AFT 7-in-1 and Sonnet 21-in-1.. you can close the door, but they do NOT work.
The AFT almost works but errors.

I live down the road from a Fry's Electronics which has a decent return policy.
It's a good thing, I started to get looks with eight returns in four days! lol

I Found 2 that work but they stick out by 1.0 cm. Are you sure that the SSD card tried was SLC version ?
The only reference I can find is to MLC version.

Marek

And the two you found that work are?

Also, what's the max FPS you can overcrank 24P?
The Kensington can safely overcrank 40FPS without an error.

When I bought the cards from eBay it didn’t say Unitek but some generic brand.
I tried few from eBay some work some didn’t and all came with different names on packaging. Do what I did buy them all and try.

They're made in China

Marek,

If you want the door to close with the K&S set up, just get a EX3

The people from China, just love you, for buying their cards, which some work some didn't

Stevet and some other people here, tested most adpators and cards, and they let everyone knows which combination works and don't. I got a K&S combination and it works like a dream, on my EX3

http://www.mobymemory.com/products/SanDisk-Ultra-II/SanDisk-2GB-Ultra-II-SD-Plus-USB.asp

How about the Ultra 2 plus usb version of the SD Sandisk card, it shows that the outeredge is empty space apart from the usb plug. Though not sure it is available in larger than 4gb capacities yet. And then Sandisk may have also changed the usb plug to the side of the card.
I am hoping to put SD cards through the xray scanner at work when i get 16/32 gb sandisk versions, see whats in them. Anyone already done that?

lol...
you're joking, right?

I have four Kensingtons which work great. Why would I want to waste my money on ordering from China just to find out most will not work.

Eventually, one will come a long that will allow the door to close.
If you own the EX3, the door closes with the Kensington.

Some people just are too cheap.

The people complaining are PC users, not EX1.
It works great and it's not like we have many choices.

Also, these may soon be scarce unless Kensington starts shipping these again.
Correction, they are already scarce.

Those Kensington adpator are scarce, it seems that everyone is out of stock. If they redo them for the other people, it might not work with the EX1 or EX3 anymore. I got 2 and they works great with my EX3

I found out that the kensington's I ordered are on back order atm, so I started searching elsewhere just in case before I cancel it/wait it out.

came across this

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16820270001

people in the reviews are talking about the card going in flush and having an ejection style release system for the SD's. Just seeing if anyone might have tested this out for functionality / ergonomics.

FYI I tried that reader and it did not work.

 The i <dot> Connect 18 to 1 express adaptor (Fry's $24.99) works fine for those of you who are waiting for a Kinsington adaptor. Also, the Scandisk MMC (Sony Pro-Duo type 2) memory sticks work just as well as the Scandisk SDHC II memory cards, I just tried a new 4Gig. duo chip and it will overcrank @ 42 frames at 720/24p without error. Maybe its because they use the same memory as the Scandisk SDHC cards! HQ recrordings are no problem; the difference is, they are more costly than the SDHC memory chips at this time. Fry's sells the 16Gig. Sony memory with adaptor for $129.99. I think they will work as well, although I have not tested them so far. They can be easily dumped into laptops that have the Sony MMC card slots. Again, "Sony no Baloney!" -- Carl
