Does anybody know how they did this? I see it frequently, its like a timelapse with a bunch of people moving ULTRA fast, and then theres the one person, moseying along at a regular speed, alot of the time the camera is dollying backwards while this is all happening
Either the person is walking really slow (low budget) or it is a composite shot (higher budget), wehre the timelaps was filmed separatly from the character, who was filmed normally infront of a green screeen.
Now when those "higher budget" shoots take place. Do they have a laptop right there on the set with the fast paced video cued up when they would be shooting the green screen footage to make sure its going to look right?
I'm sure they probably would have something like that setup, but they also would have the camera on an automated dolly (computer controled) so that moving shots would have the exact same camera height and movement as the original. There are ways to do this without all of that hightech stuff, that is why filmaking for us poor people is so much fun. you figure out what the big guys do, and then do it just as well at 1/100th the cost.
There's some info in the following thread. Also, check out the url to the Green Day video. The video does mixed speed. The behind the scenes videos also give more insight.
