Fast Action Footage

I just got the Panasonic HMC40 w/AG-MYA30G/AG-MC200G. I will be shooting some footage at a local motocross race this weekend and need some advice. It will be sunny and I want to get some great footage that can be played back in slow motion smoothly. I have shot a small test @1080/60p w/1/1000 shutter speed and at 200% reduction in speed still looks a little choppy. Do I need to change the shutter speed. I will edit through a MacBook Pro w/iMovie first, when I'm comfortable with Final Cut I'll run it through it. Thanks very much for any advice.

Sorry wannabeapilot, my setting was PH1080/60i not 60p. Should I be using PH720/60P to smooth it out? Thanks for responding.

yes, use 720/60p, there are no other bitrate settings in that format, it uses the PH only..

of course there's a limit when you slow it down, don't pretend to go too slow or it will be choppy, the most slow I've ever done with twixtor was 25% of the original speed..

Thanks Cyphermx. I will test the 720/60p this Sunday during practice and see how it looks. If I switch to manual mode and set the shutter at 1/2000 or 1/1000 would that be advisable?

Thanks again.

some say 1/120 would be the minimum recommended, I haven't tested a lot but between those speeds seems to be a matter of personal preference, towards 1/120 is a more fluid but blurry motion and towards 1/2000 is sharper but could tend to be kind of choppy (saving private ryan)

there's no other way than test, a lot of test and find out what you like the most.
