Fantastic Contraption

something wrong with your links Ronnie. only one of them worked. I am getting some funky error when I try to open them... something about mhtml...

Later,
Jason

This one particularly impresses me.

I tried and tried to do a simple design like this... but I kept finding the un-powered ball to pull my contraption down... I couldn't get it positioned right to force continued traction as you have... we were going for the same thing... but my design was 2 wheels more complex and eventually dropped... never gained traction.

Yours is a pretty good example of what I'm going for in these things... for elegance... but the one that explodes apart is incredibly entertaining... I want designs like that to work. I'm attracted to beautiful disasters... as long as they work out in the end.

This is the far simpler way to to the dynamic one:

The stick is a little too short.

I'm getting the hang of it big time now... it takes a while to get it... but the most elegant designs are boring... it was way more fun seeing "fantastic contraptions".

Whenever I make the stick longer, even by a pixel, it runs over the big ball and rides off the other side...

But yeah, the elegant stuff does tend to get boring. But then again, that one guy who did the Unpossible with 6 pieces? Not boring. I even tried copying his design and it didn't work for me. It really takes advantage of leverage which I just can't seem to get out of it. It will catapult, but the farthest I've been able to get it is halfway to the goal.

Remember the Yardapult one? (The Wall)... FAR more entertaining as Yardapult... but here's my simple solution:

I keep saving this damn link and it keeps taking me to JDS thing!

Gimme' a minute and I'll get yours solved... but do you want the sticks to stay fully on the ball? Not touching the ground? If so then you can't have a single straight stick between the gear turners... lemme' see what I can do... I'll edit this post if I get it.

EDIT: Damn Jared got it while I was typing this post.

I even tried doing the 45 deg angle on the stick like you did and it didn't stay on the ball either... :furious3:

Maybe it's cause I was using a water one instead of a stick?

I don't know... I think my Fantastic Contraption days are nearing an end...

I still love seeing what everyone comes up with and Jason's nuclear powered bombs are my favorite, but I was about spent by the time I finished them all.

I brain enjoyed the initial challenge, it just doesnt have the desire to refine them. Plus, after looking at other designs, I dont think I can be entirely original at this point.

That's why I try not to look at too many. I am trying to do the four balls one now, I created a device of sorts but I just couldn't get it to work so I gave up and went to dinner. Now I am back and I don't know if I should open it up again.

I'm so close to beating the last one. Damn them! They had to go and make physics fun and addictive! And through all this, I'm surprised Anhar hasn't been tearing this up.

I just think he hasnt chimed in yet since he's still writing up the white paper for his contraption for ROLLING AWAY.

This isnt a game, folks, this is serious science.
