False Image Music Video

Shot these with a DVX100. Cloudy day with no budget, just a couple DVX100's borrowed from a wedding videographer. Some of the shots, as you can see in the drums, look a bit pixalated for some reason. Some of the shots are color corrected, but I did a horrible job and they still need a lot of work. Some of the ones towards the end aren't color corrected. A lot of my shots are either out of focus or overexposed. This was due to the fact that there was a lot of glare on the DVX100 LCD's and we couldn't compose our shots properly. Still working on it in post everyday though. I'm trying to polish a turd. I'm trying to get the grass to look green with the sky to look blue, but I'm quite unfamilular with Avid's color corrector. In final cut I could simply select a certain color range on a secondary color correct and correct only that range. Well, here's the stills. Also, there's a few more pics on the website:

Well I guess it's just trial and error. Learn this time, shoot better next time. My DVX100 that I just ordered comes on Tuesday or WEds. Wee. Any advice would be much appreciated.

It’s odd there are pixels on them..... How did you capture them? Did you compress them? Was the video editor set to low quality? I resized the clip below to 600% and still didnt get that type of pixelation you have.

With a combination of UV filter, Polziration filter, ND filter (Built in to DVX) you could achieve a less over exposed image.

For example on the screen shot below, when the ND filter was off and the iris almost closed, it was still white, then i put it to ND 1/8 then 1/64 and opened the iris more and was able to see colour in the sky.

Recently I have used the filters above to get amazing images, similar to the colour correction you have done but it looks real without artefacts.

dang, hit the deinterlace button! How bout some footage? Your CC didnt look that bad... T

will deinterlace really fix that? what causes it in the first place?

The skies are going to be tough. You can't get your sky back from overexposed (white) unless you isolate the white sky from the rest of the content (more difficult because the singer's wearing a white shirt). I had the same problem on "Romance is Dead" visit the following page to see what I did, which was a luma key with a blue sky photo in the background. (It worked because the camera was stationary and nothing else was white in the shot.)

Of course if your camera was handheld (which it looks to be) then you've got your work cut out for ya. If all else fails you can make everything black and white. Hey, b&w music videos can be cool. Metallica did a few.

Good luck!

I actually have no clue where the pixalization occurs because it comes that way when I capture in FCP and also in Avid. Haven't tried cappin in Premiere. I shot in 24PA and I captured using advanced pulldown settings. It's been pissing me off lately because I know I can squeeze much better images outta a DVX100. I'll try capturing off my DVX100 when it comes next week. I borrowed 2 of these DVX100's to shoot this, but I didn't use them to capture. Everything is converted to NTSC anyways right? So it shouldn't be a big deal capturing off a tape deck or a handicam. Those screenprints are directly out of Avid Xpress Pro, just found a spot in the timeline and pressed export then selected a graphic.

I shot this with a Polarization filter and a UV filter on one of the cameras. The other one just had a polarization filter. And both used 1/64th ND filter. It's just really overexposed because we had our aperatures too open.We couldn't really check our exposures because there was too much glare on the LCD's and to use it looked fine anyways.

Also, I want to post some footage. What's the ideal format or what format do you guys want me to use to post my footage? Like...what compression, etc. What frame size? I added the letterboxing in post, is there any way I can export it w/out the letterboxing, just export it in widescreeN?
