False Head Cleaning Error?

Is there any way that I could be receiving a false dirty head red indicator?

The reason I am asking this is because I was shooting a casting call with my dvx. I have two so I brought them both. I was shooting for about 15 mins and the dirty head indicator appeared. So I just switched out cameras thinking I'll clean the heads when I get home. Now I have the second camera rolling and about 10 mins into it the dirty head indicator is on. Fast foward to a couple days later, when i had time to get the neccessary stuff to clean the heads. I clean the heads on both cameras. One camera is working like a champ, not a problem. The other one keeps showing the dirty head indicator. So I have cleaned it again, and again and so on. I have noticed a pattern. Turn the camera on put a new tape in and start rolling. No indicator. Stop recording, then start recording within 10 seconds the indicator is on. Stop recording, eject the tape, remove the tape, put the tape back in, start recording and no indicator. Stop recording, then start again and in 10 sec or so, the indicator is back. Has anyone had this problem?
Anyone got any ideas?

Hey
I got the same problem a week or so ago at a wedding. Made me paranoid and angry as all get out.. anyway I had the same problem, cleaned it, tried new tapes and all was well. I too kept getting the indicator light after starting and stopping it. When I got home and viewed the footage I didnt notice anything at first and than when I played it and watched carefully sometimes at the end of a clip their would be a couple of "artifacts". They also occasionally happened at the start of a clip. Thats why the dirty head indicator comes on after starting and stopping. I bet if you let the tape roll the entire tme it wouldnt have that problem. I have no clue why it would only affect the start and stop of the clip. Maybe there is something that touches the tape at the start and end of the clip that doesnt touch the tape during main part of recording. Maybe Barry could chime in on this one. At any rate, I would suggest getting it cleaned professionally which is what I plan on doing soon. hope that helps somewhat.

Tape clog indicator warning

Tape clog indicator warning

Big Stein, I've gotten the same warning indicator on my camera also, I recently sent it into Panasonic to have it looked at and they ended up replacing the rec/playback head cylinder only after 208 hr of use, $1000 bucks later I got it back. Guess what I was taking some footage to test it out and the warning indicator was back.

My though is that it could be the tape stock. I'm using Panasonic AY-DVM63PQ tape and before the repair job I was using MQ tape(White shell). I've done the same thing that you have done and eject the tape put it back in and start recording and everything is fine until the next time I stop and restart the tape.

This is only a guess, but it has prompted me to purchase a firestore to be my primary recording device and skip tape all together(or at least make tape the backup). I think I might try using Maxell Pro DV tape for backup recording and see if that may make a difference. Good luck.
