hi guys!

i've read this board for some weeks now, and i got adicted to it :)

really mind blowing what to learn from reading other peepz production comments and critics!! big thanx to the founders of dvxuser.com and all its active members!!

now i decided to sign up, cause i got some time to grab a couple of nature stills from my dvx100a i shot last weekend.
nice weather, nice lights, nice athmosphere.
everything left like my panny has seen it, just cropped in post ;)

so, hope you'll enjoy it!

Re: Fall Impressions - First Grabs

Nice work. I would love to see the movie.
What was that crash zoom kind of circular distortion on the first grab?
Another DISJECTA on board? ;D

Re: Fall Impressions - First Grabs

I never realized Germany was so beautiful. :)

Re: Fall Impressions - First Grabs

@PC - i don't know exactly how fast it was, but i just rotated my dvx around its own axis. i didn't use a tripod or any stabilizer, just went out hitting the road. so most shots were a bit shaky, that's why i first started to post stills :). but i'll go out again soon to shot more and stabilized nature stuff, when i'll have some more freetime.

and well, maybe my eye on nature is similar to disjecta's.
i always loved your work, man! keep on showin us your world :)
nature is so beautiful, it's just to open up ones eyes for all those little things around there. (but sure, those of you living in big cities cannot be so close to nature most of the time)

@TC - in fact germany has some really nice places, and i am glad we have many woods around here in the country. it's not as loveley as Seattle, i guess, but i was surprised about the beauty when i saw the shots. they're almost a bit more impressiv, than just being there and watch.

@iamloser - i dunno what kind of mushrooms these are, but i think they're not magic ones ;)
although this last shot has some real magic in it, it's one of my favourite, too.

Re: Fall Impressions - First Grabs

Neat grabs. Used the default settings? I quite like that last one.

I think you are wrong there, my friend. There are lots of places, including Germany, that are as beautiful as where I shoot. It's all in the eye. Nature's beauty is hidden to a lot of us even when we are in the midst of it.

Re: Fall Impressions - First Grabs

Right. This kind of shots can really be taken in any country with a reasonably moderate climate (i.e., with birch trees, mushrooms,` and stuff). It's only up to the viewer to see them.

I also think that nature is an infinite source of inspiration - for me it's not just the natural subjects, but first and foremost the light - you look at it's quality and what's causing it (autumn foliage as a bold bounce, or thin clouds as a diffuser, for example), and then think - how can I recreate it in my shots?

So, while nature shots may seem like a cliche, I think they are actually a fantastic learning tool set.

Re: Fall Impressions - First Grabs

I agree with disjecta...
Even in the most desolate places you can find beauty. I live in WA. State now, but I spent 3 years in the High Desert and if ya know where to look, there is beauty there as well. (Joshua Tree anyone?)

Re: Fall Impressions - First Grabs

What amazes me is that after I've lived in a place for a while, I start taking its beauty for granted. Then I go away for a while, and when I come back, it's like 'How come I didn't see this before?'

Applies to women, too! ;D

Re: Fall Impressions - First Grabs

thanx for your replies, guys!

@ shaw - these were my settings, just did some experimenting:

detail l. +1
chroma l. +4
colour t. -1
master p. -5
a. iris l. -1

gamma - cine-like
knee - auto
matrix - cine-like
v.detail f. - thin

@disjecta - ok, i agree with you. it's almost all in the eye and how you frame it. here's one more grab, that seems to have a wired shooting angle.

Re: Fall Impressions - First Grabs

These are beautiful. the color is increadible. I have a question though, i saw a few weeks ago someone, i think disjecta posted a few grabs of his trip to the mountains and took a shot of a Bee on a leaf. now that screen grab was absolutly crisp and razor sharp. these, and a lot of other grabs people post look softer. Is there a setting that tightens the image???? or is the softness from the compression of the image? (jpeg etc)

Re: Fall Impressions - First Grabs

That bee shot was taken by IAMLOSER, and I believe he used Photozoom Pro to sharpen it a little bit more than the original.

He shoots letterbox, not squeeze mode so the softening is not as prevalent as it would be on squeeze mode.

Here's the bee shot:

You can find out more info on Photozoom Pro from this thread:

Hope this helps...

Re: Fall Impressions - First Grabs

That mushroom shot is one of my favorite grabs I have seen on this board. It is really fantastic. You have a great eye.

Re: Fall Impressions - First Grabs

thnx CMessineo, i am honored 8)

this mushroom grab was shot in the evening, about 45 min before sunset i think.
the evening sunlight in autumn is very special, just noticed this aware for the first time now. (maybe cause my eyes on lights are more trained since i got my dvx)
it has some warmth and beauty, that differs from the summer or winter spectrum of sunrays.
