Fake Smoke?

What"s the best way to make a character on screen exhale purple and green smoke from a joint. I already have the footage of the character appearing to exhale, and I just need to add the colored smoke over the black and white layer footage. I was planning on after effects, but is there a simpler way to do it in FCS?

You could try with keying but a far simpler way would have been to backlight it during production with a colored gel. For next time.

So is the actor exhaling with no smoke in the source footage? Motion would be the best bet in FCS to create a colored smoke effect.
