Fake 360 shot

I have been asked to create a soft of 360 shot out of still photos. It’s a pictures of a large hall with the American flag in the center. A photographer too pictures of the flag at the same diameter but photo all around the flag. They are asking me to use these still and make it seem that the flag was video taped in a circle dolly.
How would you create this effect?
I have the photos lined up in order with the flag center in each one but how do I go from still to still smoothly? I know there is no perfect way to transition between stills with out a little bit of a jump but what is the smoothest way? Also how do you achieve this effect without going seemly 80 mph around the flag?

How many photo's do you have? You have to remember that your frame rate for video is going to be anywhere between 24-30 frames per second. So, to have a smooth transition from frame to frame and, more importantly, to imply motion (the 360 degree move) you will need enough frames for the duration of the shot as if it was shot normally.

For example, if you wanted a 5 second shot of the rotation, at 24fps, you would need 120 unique photos from various positions around the flag. My guess is that the photographer didn't take that many photos, probably 10-20 at most. In that case you can't treat it like you're going about it.

What you'll probably have to do is cut out the flag from each photo, repaint the area behind the flag, which shouldn't be too hard considering you have angles from all over the room, then stitch all those "clean" photos together in a 360 degree fashion (you can use something like Trapcode Horizon to make it super easy) then create an image sequence using the cut out flags, roughly timed out to the length desired, place that in the middle and rotate the background in time with your flag. This will give the illusion of the background moving and should be enough to cheat it. You might have to use Timewarp to blend the image sequence of the flag more, but it's better than blending the whole thing and you'll get the paradox effect, etc by using these elements in 3D space in AE.

Oneinfiniteloop, Thank you so much for your suggestion. You're right, I only have about 10 pictures. Unfortunatly, they refused to shoot more. I will try out your suggestion today and hope for the best. Trapcode has been on my wishlist forever, but they keep saying maybe next year. Maybe this will give them the excuse to purchase it.

Thank you again!

I don't know if this will help you or not. These are pictures I spliced together in AE to create kind of a 360 view of a lake from a dock. I did not use a camera in AE. Which probably would have given it a more "rounded" feel to this. I just spliced them together with a mask around each one and faded the mask on the edges. I used my daughter's cheap digital camera, so the color varies a bit. I think having an object like the flag you are talking about makes it more difficult, but can be done if you spend some time on it.

If you are going to stich in the photomerge from photoshop try CS3 or CS4 they work pretty nice. Depend the lenses but try to overlap a 25%, it works with almost every lens.
