Failure Patterns

Whats been your experience with the manner in which the camera will fail? For instance, i've only had it fail straight away so far, so its not a big deal for production work, though it would be an issue for event shooting. How often does it fail in the first few seconds versus into the recording?

With the AVCHD codec, startup failures that record an empty file can be caused by Preset Bitrates that are set too high. I recommend setting both Preset Bitrates to 180, which produces a safe bitrate for the first I-frame.

For both AVCHD and MJPEG codecs, SD card write-speed failures can occur at any time during a recording. These failures are highly sensitive to maximum bitrate settings and the amount of fine detail in a frame. They are often provoked by static, tripod-mounted shots.

With Native 24p in the AVCHD codec, empty P-frames can be recorded at the end of a GOP. I suspect these corrupted GOPs occur when the encoder runs out of bitrate before completing the GOP. In severe cases, the encoder may fail to write the required number of P-frames in a GOP or simply terminate the recording.

Both preset bitrates? There are 3 presets, FHD/SH, H, L, and none of them can go to 180mbits. Thats not really what i was asking though...
