Failed to create empty document

Please help! I shot about 8 hours of event and none of them play on my laptop. I get the "Failed to create empty document" when I double a clip inside of Sony Clip Browser v2.6. Any suggestion. My guess is I maybe missing some codec to play the clip. I tested it on my brother's laptop and it plays fine. Any help is much appreciated!
 
You didn't provide enough information for anyone to comment. Mac or PC? FCP or CS5? MOV, AVI, MXF, MP4, etc? Since it plays on your brothers computer its not the clips that are messed up. And what do you mean, double a clip? Convert a clip?

Thanks for the response and sorry for the lack of information. It's within Sony Clip Browser software. It's not CS6 or any NLE software. The laptop is a HP DV2700 PC. Sorry, I meant to say when I double click on a clip to play inside of Sony Clip Browser, I got that error message. I now know that there is definitely something wrong with laptop, perhaps a codec or a driver of some sort. Sony Clip Browser does not play some of good old clips either. At this point, I'm just not sure what I'm missing.
