Fader ND and lens hood

Has anyone found a elegant way to attach the lenses original hood back on the Fader ND?

Would it work to screw a stepdown ring to the Fader ND´s front thread to get the diameter back to the lenses thread size, or will that cause vignetting? Though I´m not even sure if such a stepdown ring exists, since the Fader has it´s front thread on the inside..

Any suggestion is very much appreciated!

step down rings would make it work physically, but depending on your lens and camera, it may or may not cause vignetting. For example, a Canon 16-35mm L on a 5D would definitely porthole, but on a 7D, maybe.

Maybe it depends on what lens, Fader ND and hood you're using?

I've got the ND fader from Lightcraft, and on my EF 16-35mm 2.8L II it works perfectly fine with the hood.

Since I use the same ND on my 50mm and 85mm, but with step down rings, the hood does kind of get in the way or at least make it more difficult on those.

You might consider getting a cheap rubber lens hood that is already the size of the outer ring of the Fader. Getting into stepdown rings will cost about as much and will likely cause more vignetting.

I've been searching trying to find a solution for this - I really need SOMETHING to screw onto my L.C.W Fader ND MkII in the way of a hood to minimise some of the glare you can get. Problem is the outer ring thread of the Fader is 82mm and all I can find at B&H is this:

Unfortunately the price for that is $65 (for about $1 worth of plastic) so in desperation I searched ebay and found a number of cheapo options for around $5-$6 - so Ive ordered two, a rubber expandable one and metal fixed one and I will report back how effective they are.

Do they ones to fit the 82mm thread for my Fader ND? That was my problem - very few 82mm threaded hoods available.

I got these two:

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-82mm-Collap...345?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45fa947399

and put the rubber from the 77mm fotodiox into the ring of the chinese 82mm; maybe they changed something in their design and this fix won't work anymore, but it may be worth a try (edit: or you could just get the 82mm, it was not bad at all, just very slightly slightly worse than the fotodiox I had standing around)
