what's the freakin' deal ??? on apple, all's you have to do is click'n'drag, why the hell can't i just *fade* out with a click of a button
? why is vegas makin' it so lame?

Re: fade to black

What do you mean. All you have to do is drag the opacity from the clip in a little and vegas defaults to fade to black for as long as the fade is. You can do this on a single clip. If you want to fade to black and hold the black longer, just drop a solid black clip under it and fade to that.
Vegas is great and does a good job for me. Sorry it's not like FCP but i'm sure vegas users converting to FCP would say the same thing about why does vegas do this and FCP does it different. just MHO.

Re: fade to black

There's a fader in the upper left and upper right corner of each clip. Click & drag -- it'll fade to black (or whatever's on the track below it).

Re: fade to black

yes.. and if that wasnt enough you can even change the Fade Curve.. I love Vegas... just give it some time.

I actually went to a very small Avid Studio demo last week.. There was only 2 things that that $10,000 package could do I wish Vegas did.. there was a one button silence thing that automatically removed all audio below a certain level, and the Automated audio mixing board thing was cool as hell... all audio stuff.

Re: fade to black

Vegas has pretty good MIDI support in v5, so control surfaces (as their called in the audio world) including mixing boards, etc. are definitely usable in Vegas.  Mackie even made one specifically with vegas with jog/shuttle controls and other vtr controls along with the assignable flying faders and a whole bunch of other goodness.  It's around $1k, which is a great price for what it does.

As for the avid's audio removal, the one button thing is nice, but you could basically do the same thing with Vegas' audio plugins (unless I'm missing something).  Sony really did a good job with v5 of Vegas on the audio side.  Along with the added all-around scripting enhancements, I'm sure something like this is definitely possible in Vegas.  It seems that all you would have to do is create a script that used the proper plugin to drop all audio below/above (between, etc. really whatever you wanted), and set that script to a keyboard shortcut.  Bingo, single button audio removal thing-a-magic-button-doohickey-roo!  ;D

BTW, happy, not really sure what you mean about how it's done on apple's side.  Are you talking about iMovie?  In FCP, you've got to set keyframes to adjust opacity over time or apply a transition to the end of the clip and then you could drag that to whatever length of fade you want.  Am I missing something? In vegas, you don't need to create keyframes or apply any transitions. I'll admit tho, I'm kinda rusty with the little details of FCP since I haven't used it since I started using Vegas  ;)
