Facebook is doing the wonky

So I've been having some fun today taking advantage of Facebook's wonkiness. They must be updating the system or something, because things are going haywire. I'll have fan pages jump to astronomical numbers, during which times I'll run ads -- and for the lesser pages I'm able to grab them usernames, which is just super cool.

One thing I noticed at a group I looked at was a message from Facebook:
"Over the next few months, Facebook will be archiving all groups created using the old groups format. When this group is archived, its wall posts, photos and discussion threads will move to the new groups format, but group members will need to be re-added."

This particular group has over 15,000 members. Does this really mean that people with "group" pages are going to lose all of their members? That is just insane.

Yep. I'm really displeased with Facebook for this. I've already had a group archived, and all the members were wiped out.

Yikes!

I don't even understand that, though. I mean, I see lots of group pages that are existing just fine and are without this message. Does it have something to do with the group's owner not being active? Because the *members* are certainly still active in this group.

Honestly, I'm not sure how they figure it out. They say it's being done to groups that don't have enough activity, but I don't know how they qualify "enough activity".

Well, the most recent DVX Fest listed on there in the "News" section is 2009's LossFest. In fairness, I'm not entirely sure how many people around here need to connect via a Facebook group, since DVXUser does a pretty good job with that networking on its own. Those of us who do use Facebook are pretty good at connecting one-on-one if we feel the need.

Also, that's about as "ironic" as the examples given in the Alanis Morissette song. Not so much irony as circumstance.

I thought "irony" was associated pretty well in this circumstance. It's like if we were talking about blue and grey forum designs and then realized that we're talking about these things on a forum that's blue and grey. The problem with Alanis's definition of irony is that she was talking about bad luck more than she was irony. Most times irony is defined as an "unexpected coincidence". I think irony applies.
