Facebook getting creepy.

More than once its suggested friends to me I couldn't figure out how it knew that I knew them. Today it suggested a DVXUSER, Kholi Hicks, whom I only know through this website. Not only that, but my username here isn't my username on Facebook. Bizarre coincidence, or is Facebook getting more invasive and aggressive about its data collecting?

I really like Facebook. I have friends all over the globe so it helps me keep in touch. And if you go into the settings you can pretty much make yourself invisible if you don't want to be found. It's just these recent friend suggestions are weirding me out, as they aren't people any of my other friends are friends with, and yet I know them.

Do you guys have mutual friends on Facebook?

I hate Facebook. I can't get my real-life friends to watch a 6 minute film I post & leave a quick comment, yeah or neah.

But seems like everyone has all the time in the world to play Mafia Wars & Farmville.

have you been tagged in the same photos or albums with Kholi?

No. Absolutely no connection other than this website. I e-mailed him once for a lens rental I ended up not needing, which makes me worried that Facebook has somehow accessed my Yahoo account info...It's not only him either, there's been a few other suggestions that made me scratch my head.

Weird... thing is I noticed something weird this morning. A friend I knew from waaaaaaaay back in Barbados, lives in the UK now and we don;t even share the same pool of friends... sends out a birthday greeting to Herman Witkam this morning... and I'm like "he doesn't even know Herman! How the hell does he know Herman?" Maybe Facebook suggested that he be friends with Herman because of our distant connection? Just weird...

friend of mine got an e-mail about a friend request. the e-mail was not from Facebook, she clicked on the link and got a virus. when she went to Facebook, there was no friend request. I have received several spam e-mails that appear to be from FB, but are not.

I totally agree with this. I only have about 5 people total that even reply to any messages or comments from me. Sometimes I'm genuinely laughing out loud at some comment I pop on some dude's page and then nothing... ever. It's like a sh*t-ton of affirmation that I know a whole lot of people called friends who don't really give a crap.

I can't see having a facebook account indefinitely... I'll be burned out on it at some point... because all it is so far is a "look at my life"... "No! YOU look at MY life!"... book... with the exception of a few people who really do seem to care to keep in contact.

What really blows my mind is I've had a couple ex GFs try to friend me on there... with no comment... no nothing... just "add friend"... LOL... and I'm thinking "don't you remember all that horrible sh*t between us?" There's no "hey, I was just thinking about you and found you on here... I'd like to catch up." Instead... it's just a friend request... you click their profile... and then see that they gained a hundred pounds and have 5 kids now... Okay... so... nothing personal whatsoever... no message at all... just "here I am... new warts and all".

Yeah... I don't really get facebook.

I hear you on this one and believe me I've been sending out to all of the "interested" people in my network. Despite their admitted interest, most of them don;t bother to respond and there's no way of tracking that kind of info so it all feels like wasted time trying make any kind of proper connection or infrm people of what's going on. When you have your friends playing Mafia Wars or join the stupid "Bet this Walnut can get more friends than Jay Leno" groups, and then those same friends don;t even look at the page of someone they actually KNOW... you gotta wonder...

Facebook does mine your email contacts, if there is a matching Facebook account with that email address it will suggest them.

Yeah... I don't really get facebook.

Hmm, I've had the opposite experience. All my friends are pretty active on Facebook, probably because most of my friends have jobs that require them to be on a computer all day, so they check in frequently.
