F970 + F770 = enough battery for all day?

I'm ordering all the various items I need for my upcoming FS700 package.

I have 2 questions

1) If I order 1 additional F970 battery to compliment the included F770 battery, is that enough power for an entire day? 2 battery total.

2) On the Canon DSLRs, you have to constantly turn the camera on and off / use auto power-down, because the batteries go fast. On the FS cameras, do you guys just leave it on all day? I read that this can be done, but just wanted to verify. Is there any auto power down option on the FS cameras? Do you guys use it?

3) Just for my own info, is it bad to turn a camera on and off too much?

Thanks

No, not on the 700.
On the FS100 I had one replacement 970 with higher capacity than the original and it lasted the whole day, but the FS700 might need a fresh 970 every 4-5 hours. So make it two 970s and the smaller that comes with the cam.

Agreed, it looks like the power spec on the FS700 is 70% more than FS100, so expect to need 70% more battery.

I use a lenmar 7800mah with my FS100 and have only once ever run the battery down all the way during a day... and that battery should run almost 6hrs on an FS700 (compared to 10hrs on the FS100), so it is still possible I may be able to get away with just a high-cap battery and the included battery, but I'd say have another one around to be safe. I bet I'll still rarely change batteries in a day, I may just not leave the camera running constantly like I do with my FS100.

It's kind of amazing not having to bring chargers or charge batteries at all...

Adorama had a deal last week where if you bought 2 or more of the Flashpoint replacement batteries, they were 1/2 price, free shipping.

Looks like that is gone. You might watch for it coming up again.

I usually buy & use mostly OEM batteries. I figure the cost isnt that much, and I have had the 3rd party batteries go bad on me, or have a low capacity, where that has never happened with the OEM batteries.

But, that said, I bought 2 Flashpoint F970 equivalent for $14 each shipped, and 4 F550 size for $7 each, for my monitor and EVF. I also bought 2 extra Canon T4i compatible batteries for $7 each (Canon are usually $25 each.)

So for $75 I have 8 extra, spare batteries around for long days, trips, etc. I figured that was cheap insurance. And at least it is a "named" battery with a bit of a reputation, rather than a no-name cheapest possible battery at the same price from eBay or Amazon 3rd party sellers.

Good luck!
Michael

Bummer about the battery life on the FS 700.

Sorry to re-ask this of you guys, but is it OK to turn the FS-700 on and off a number of times over the course of a day? With the Canon DSLRs, you have to since the batteries drain so fast. Not that I plan on doing this with the FS700, but is it safe to turn the camera on and off repeatedly? Or will that damage the camera?

Unless you mean switching on and off several times in a couple seconds, of course you can turn it on and off throughout the day just like any other electronic device. Just maybe make sure you wait for it to boot up before turning it off again...

You won't be worrying about the battery on the FS100 if you turn it off when not using it.

One thing I have noticed is that it takes a heck of a long time to recharge this battery, overnight at least, you won't be recharging them on the job. It seems the supplied charger is slower than my other L battery chargers.

I've noticed that too. According to the charger it charges at 1.7A, which should take about 5hrs for my big 7800mah battery which would still be a fairly long time but I'm sure it takes longer than that. Maybe it trickles a lot at the end so the last 10% takes hours?

Mine takes over night and a half day, at least.
But I saw a faster (speed)charger somewhere, just can´t remember the brand or website.

If some of you guys stumble over it, please drop me a line.

I haven't done a scientific side by side test, but my Sony BC-V500 double L battery charger, a lightweight looking wall plug affair that outputs only .6A, seems to be leaving the stock 1.7A charger in the dust.

And on the stock charger, doesn't the manual say to leave it on another hour after the light goes out for full charge?

can anyone recommend a good charger for the FS700? Sounds like I'm going to have to have more than 1 charger since the batteries take so long to charge.

Preferably something smaller and more travel friendly since it looks like the charger that comes with it is pretty large.

I've got two 970's and the supplied 770. I think that is a good capability for this camera. And personally I prefer the genuine Sony batteries.

I really like the dolgin chargers. They charge fast and customer service is great. They cost a bit more than some of the other 7.2v chargers, but they work slick. I've got one that charges 4 simultaneously. and does them quickly

my next charger will be dolgin
for now i have
1 x double charger from sony
1 x double charge from swit (had 1 more that died quickly)
2 x pearstone double charger

on the swit the battery tent to pop up "bad" (does not stay connected)
on the pearstone has a nice lcd, replaceble plate that woud allow you to charge other kind of battery.
