F6 newbie questions

I'm going to be shooting part of a documentary this weekend on the F6 setting on a 100A. Is that true 24P, or a 29.7 24 frame emulator? It's also animorphic right? I'm not a total rookie, I just haven't worked with this camera much. Does it also turn off the auto iris and autofocus automaticly?

Any more info' and pointers on shooting with this camera on this setting would be greatly appreciated!

The F6 does not default to widescreen. You'd need an anamorphic adapter to shoot "animorphic". Or, shoot with the DVX in "squeeze" mode to view it properly on a 16 x 9 monitor.

Yes, true 24 progressive images here.

Pointer: Use the in-camera color correction.

No!
Not true 24. It's an advanced pulldown, losing on frame less than in scene file 5 which is standards 24 pulldown. This is in you manual.

NOTE: you should NEVER shoot scene file 6 unless you're certain that the editing software it will be cut takes advanced pulldown.

NO! you cannot set the camera to anamorphic, which is 2:35 and requires the camera be set to 16x9 and also have an anamorphic adaptor lens (expensive) installed.

NO! If you want to turn off the outo iris and auto focus you do it it manually and also go into the menu as well.

Anamorphic is not defined by any one aspect ratio, you can have anamorphic 2.35:1, 1.85:1, 16:9, etc.

Thank you everyone for your pointers! I'm picking up the camera tomorrow. I plan to play with it a bit to try to familiarize my self with it before I go shooting. Wish me luck!

The best way to get to know the camera is to read through the manual and Barry's book while playing around with the settings and controls, and then just go shoot some stuff. You'll eventually find the settings that you like the best. Have fun with it!
