F55: F55 vs Alexa vs Red Epic

This seemed like years to watch through, but from what I gather:

- The RED Epic has some bad flare abbarations when shooting directly into the sun (pink grid spots all over frame seen in part 3 @ 2:10).

- F55 seems to have the widest lattitude when looking at getting detail back in the stick in front of the direct sun (part 3 @ 4:17) as well as in the sihouette test.

- The Alexa exhibits the "black sun effect" (part 4 @ 1:53) when exposing too far past the lattitude of the camera. This is not seen in either RED Epic or the F55.

- The F55 and EPIC perform very well when underexposed in terms of low noise. The Alexa not as much.

Overall, the results seemed a bit leaning towards the F55 followed by the Alexa. The F55 footage for me at least seemed to have some magenta cast on skin tones in nearly every clip I saw in the video. I liked the Epic skin tones best personally, but I know the F55 images could probably be further tweaked in post if needed.

If I understood it correctly, the F55 was not shot RAW but internally using slog. Same with the Alexa, internal recording only. Pretty impressive test overall.

Yeah lets shoot some actors on a green cyc with a black curtain, get some wicked ass green spill on their chins, and then compare colorimetry between the cameras.

Genius.

I wouldn't go on their results at all, there's a lot of foul play in their "tests" including one that they had a bounce card to bring up exposure in one of the shots to make the F5/55 look better. They are super biased, i would look else where for better more trustworthy testing.

WHo gives a F*&k! The truth of the matter is these are all not just good cameras ..........but GREAT cameras !

All these cameras have long production credits except maybe the F55 but its getting there. So Pixel peepers be dammed there is no such thing as "THE CAMERA" for everything & these stupid verses that test paid for by one manufacturer proves nothing.

P.S. What I find interesting no F65, another great camera not in the mix, has it been superceded by the F55 & is Sony positioning the 55 over the 65 for cinema which both Alexa & Red excel at? I ask because I thought "Oblivion" looked beautiful (shot F65) .

It's true, they are all great cameras and obviously in the right or wrong hands it makes all the difference.

The best thing about these series of videos is I can send them to directors and producers to convince them the camera I own is the almighty best. Maybe even get paid more now. lol

Never trust a Internet camera test. Always wrong and always trying to push their camera and not the others in the test.

It's one reason that I liked the big sensor camera tests a couple years ago. DPs that were used to their own cameras operated them. The F3 did quite well even before S-Log was out, thank you.

There is not such thing as a perfect test, but you can learn something from every test. Heck, these will be obsolete shortly because Sony RAW wasnn't used. Then there will be the Dragon sensor. It's never ending.

It looks to me like the F55 might be the best, at the moment, but at the very least the F55 is right up there with the Alexa and Epic and it has versatility and speed of use on it's side.
