F55: F55 Shipping?

I was just going through Visual Impact UK's Flickr stream of their F event, and I noticed something strange...

Both the OLED finder and the R5 recorder had Visual Impact's rental stickers on them. I wouldn't have thought much of it except I heard a big customer of a large American retailer was offered a 55 for delivery next week, which I dismissed as exaggeration from the speaker.

Is it possible the very first units are already trickling out, in a below-the-radar sort of way to certain big money customers who are willing to test almost complete firmware?

What?! Camera companies can actually make their announced release dates? ...I assumed that simply wasn't possible.

Yeah but the F cameras aren't "really" finished yet. One has to wait until almost 2014 before the announced features would be "complete". ;)

I guess I should amend what I think is happening. I think the first production units are starting to trickle out to special folks who need them (i.e. Sony training)

Not "shipping" as such, in volume. But more units hitting the shores that are not prototypes. Super good sign that Sony will be on time, getting units in volume by end of this month.

That's all. It bodes well for maybe a couple of us getting our cams possibly as soon as mid-month, I think.

So are these in stock and shipping anywhere?

There's a waiting list of various lengths at pretty much every retailer. "In stock" is probably something you're not going to see for well over a month, my guess.

Mitch had posted a couple of weeks ago that he suspected there would be a trickle of shipments in February with more supply in March, consistent with how Sony released generally seemed to go. Only wish one of those F55's had my name on it ;(

There's a very large retailer in the UK who has been telling customers that the F5/55's will start arriving next week. Trouble is they've been saying this every week this year!!! I even have a email from them informing me that my camera will be in the UK on January 14th and delivered to me on the 18th. Clearly everyone knows this is wrong, but they obviously think there's something to be gained from stringing customers along. Didn't work for me as I've now taken my custom elsewhere... and so have three other cameraman I know. At least they gave us the deposits back without argument. Good news was we've all made savings on the price too... and I wasn't even in a rush for my camera!
