F55: F55 Rental Price

Given what an F65, Alexa, Epic etc. currently rents for...What's your guess on what the F55 will likely cost to rent, per day? (...with, and without the external recorder?).

Does that estimate include the essential accessories like viewfinder, batteries, charger and memory card reader as well - or would that increase the price?

that sounds about right to me. Here in Atlanta an Alexa, Epic, and F65 are 1500/day and the F3/C300 are 500/day. The F55 seems to be right about in the middle of these, so I would assuming about the middle price-wise.

No, only the body excluding VF, batteries, charger, memory reader.

The rate is loosely based on 2%-3.5% of the retail price but will vary from rental house to rental house and what deal you can strike. Considering it will be new I'd expect the higher end.

F3 use to be $500/day here when new, now $300/day, some places still charging a bit more.

RED is so saturated price has been driven down, F55 fully blown out package will cost more than Epic for sure.

I can get Epic for $500/day if I looked hard enough.

Being a former rental guy....
I would say that rentals follow the same supply and demand dynamic that any other business enjoys. Most companies tend to make the published daily rate well into the high-side to leave room for market forces to do the thing they do - push the price lower. In the beginning, while the camera is new, exciting, and exclusive- it will command full rate. Maybe 3+ day weeks. As the market saturates and owner operators with very little overhead start cutting the prices, so will the rental companies. The way the owners perceive the life cycle of the camera has a huge impact on price as well which varies from market to market. I would rent out $90k F900 bodies for $900/day and made money at it. This is 1% pricing. In this day and age, I would start the rate north of 2% which would be maybe $700 - $900 for the basics. Batteries, OLED, starter package of media.

I am thankful I am no longer in rentals - its tough. It always depends on the day, the mood, the weather, etc. Rental prices are wildly negotiable.

So...maybe... $900-$1,000 for an F55 with OLED viewfinder, 2 or 3 batteries, charger, starter media, reader -- and $1,200 adding AXS recorder, AXS starter media, AXS reader?

Does that seem about right?

Apart of the price there is no logical reason for F55 to be rented for less than ARRI Alexa.
Remember that if you offer someone something cheaper the client will think that it will look cheaper!

Yeah, but isn't a base Alexa rental (body, VF, battery, media) in the $1,500 - $1,700 range? (...and no 4K)

So wouldn't that push the F55 higher than we've been talking about?

So?
It will be messy in the beginning, but will saddle within 3-4 months

Alexa costs at least double full F55 kit.... Price reason is logical to me.

I'd guess (and really I'm only guessing here) between $1000 - $1200, $1300, $1400 per day.

Want to split one and get into renting business with me here in Toronto?

You should not give a price by only "price reason". Sony F35 cost twice more than Alexa..... Both cameras are more than 3 years old and they cannot meet the flexibility of F55.
Whit so many Alexas and Reds on the market if apprized propperly F55 should hold a price for a while.
If you go out with lower price for F55 you will lose the game ,some people still think that more=better.
In this forum's marketplace section you can find good Alexa set for 46k USD and this is 40% less than Im spending for my F55

Well, here is the rate card for the premier camera shop in the Detroit area. I would imagine it would be close to the $1200-$1400/day range.

What accessories are you getting that brings your F55 package up to $76k?

nkerezov, price of equipment is logical starting point and as I mentioned earlier where a market is super saturated as it is with RED the "equipment price" becomes irrelevant - which will also depend on what's available in your city.

I can rent RED Epic for $500/day, Alexa $1800++.

In the end the F55 price will be high and settle down eventually.

Time will tell.

Of course... supply and demand. Rental prices are really comparatively low here in NYC area thanks in part to Adorama's deep discount of rentals (bad when I want to rent out my F3; good when I want to rent some nice glass).

A lot of EPIC and Alexa's around also, that's why I think that in the begining F55 on a market flooded with Alexas must be equal or higer than ARRI.
