F55: F5 vs F55 ?

Hello

i d like to ask a few questions if possible:

what is better F5 2000 iso or F55 1200 iso base sensitivity? is there some difference in image quality? is it true that f55 will has less dynamic range in high lights because of lower base iso?

are there any limitations in terms of using global shutter ? i understand that there are some pluses, but if there are any minuses?

are there any more announced updates comming for f5 or f55?

Regards

hope some one can help me out with my questions... i try to figure out what is best buy for me, the price difference is huge, and i would not want to be limited of something that i dont know of yet....

maybe some advice on what i would be dealing with if i go f55 road, anything negative about f55 compared to f5, besides the price?

regards

I wouldn't be concerned with any ISO differences to be honest, the biggest differences are global shutter, 4k internal codec, and extended gamut all on the F55 but not the F5.

Additionally the F55 includes 4k real-time SDI outputs for broadcast or other live applications. The F55 when recording 4k XAVC can also record HD MPEG proxy files at the same time to the SAME card. This means after shooting 4k XAVC there is no need to go through hours or days of transcoding your footage into proxies for editing.

There have been many firmware updates this year, with another one coming this month (December) to bring centre scanning capability on the F5/F55 to allow s16 lenses, along with higher frame rates in S&Q modes. I think the highest frame rate will be 180fps max in HD mode on the F5/F55 (it is 120fps today). And for shooting 2k RAW S&Q mode will be added to select anywhere between 1 and 240fps (again both F5/F55). And finally in 4k RAW mode 1 to 60p S&Q is coming. There are more features coming, best to check the Sony forums for the latest updates.

There is nothing negative about the F55 except the price

thank u for the replay and the info u provided ! but still 1200iso vs 2000 iso is it a good thing or not? and where the difference will be seen?

Sony would have rated the ISO at a level for each camera which produced the best image accounting for the lowest acceptable noise and highest dynamic range possible.

In the case of both cameras the F5 and F55 both offer a signal-to-noise ratio of 57 dB (Video Gamma, 24p, Noise Suppression OFF).

So aside from global shutter and the extended gamut, that tells me that the only real life difference regarding ISO is going to be that less than one stop difference in light sensitivity between the two cameras. This is not a big deal in my books.

if say true i just dont understand why would they make a more expansive cam model less sensitive? there must be a reason for it...... hope its just soo good that it not necessary, or there is some tech limitation that has something to do with different sensor tech

but of course 4k and 10bit high frame rates on board is very tempting and not work around the rolling shutter, but just film the way u want it is great.

The way Sony implemented global shutter was to put micron sized gates (switches) for each photosite on the 4k sensor. They needed space to do that, and with the reduced photosite size it means less light gathering capability.

To be quite frank its a marvel they have made 4k sensors as clean and light sensitive as they have!

Good luck with which ever camera you decide to go with, they are both amazing of course.
