Just confirmed that SR 422 (220mbps @ 30p) and SR 444 (440mbps @ 30p) record to my old SXS-1 card no problem. Sony however recommends SXS Pro or SXS Pro + so use crappier cards at your own risk! My test was 24p only.

Dennis, I'll back ya up regarding the orange & silver SxS-1 cards. I've been using them for everything up to HD XAVC 1080 60p with no problems for 4 months. First thing I tried today after updating camera was using one with SR 444 at 24p, I thought I was going to get a message saying "cannot use" but only got the warning message, it worked fine. Ran a 2 minute clip, brought it in with SR Viewer and all was good, pretty shocked. Didnt try at 30p but Im guessing it might crap out at those data rates. I still prob wouldnt use one on a job till we know more. Just yesterday I went out and bought a 128gb Pro+ to prepare for this release, most un-gratifying $1,400 I've ever spent.

Sorry I didnt get back to you on the Sony forum re: HDMI at true 24, had to run out to a shoot ..with my EX-1, haha.. Old girl still gets work every now and then.

Hi Bill,

I tested the HDMI port - it only works when camera is in 29.97 base frequency which likely means the test out analog video output also doesn't work in anything other than 29.97. This is a bummer for older steadicam equipment or just giving the director an old monitor to stay out of my hair when operating.

Regarding the organge/silver sxs-1 cards, my F55 hangs a lot when I try 4k 60p to it but I've never had an issue shooting all day with one in 4k 24p (which would work out to 240Mbps) and now no problems with a short test using HD SR 444 at 24p (approx 352Mbps). If my blue/silver SXS Pro (non plus) cards can record 4k 60p (600Mbps) then the Pro+ cards you really won't need until you want to exceed 60p (not possible until later this year it appears).

Maybe you can return that 128GB Pro+ card if you haven't opened it yet... that's a lot of beans!!!

Here's a handy data/resolution chart for reference incase it helps anyone:

Dennis, check my post. I said HD XAVC 1080 60p, not 4K 60p, I have a F5. Yeah I woulda loved not to have bought the 128gb Pro+ but we're going to need them later when we get 180 fps.

My F5 was doing 23.97 out of HDMI to my Zacuto evf just fine before the update, havent checked it yet.

You had HDMI working with camera in 23.97?? What firmware version? I was on v1.12 and it never worked, now I'm on v1.2 and still not working.

V1.20 and V1.21 were released at the same time. The specific improvements/changes are listed below:

V1.20
1. SR File, SStP recording
PMW-F5/F55 is compatible with SR File, SStP SR-SQ 444 (440Mbps), SR-SQ 422 (440Mbps), and SR-Lite 422 (220Mbps) format files that are adopted for HDCAM-SR, which can be recorded on an SxS memory card. The supported frame rates are 23.98P, 24.0P, 25.0P, and 29.97P.

2. “Cam ID + Reel#” naming method on SxS memory card
The clip recorded on an SxS memory card can be named by the “Cam ID + Reel#”
naming method. The “Clip Name” setting in “AXS Recorder” of the System menu moves
to “Clip Naming” of the Media menu. And also the RAW clip name is set in this menu.

3. Wi-Fi Remote control
Attaching the supplied IFU-WLM3 USB wireless LAN module allows F5 and F55 to
connect with devices such as a smartphone, tablet, iPhone and iPad via Wi-Fi. For
detail procedure, please refer to the operation manual of F55 and F5 V1.2.

4. Compatible with the 1.3x anamorphic lens
You can display normal images without distortion on the viewfinder screen and Video
outputs when using 1.3x anamorphic lens.

5. Invalid Flare setting on Cine-EI
Flare setting is changed to be always “OFF” on Cine-EI mode.

6. Bug fix
The bug that last clip name is not memorized occasionally is fixed.
The bug that Zebra mark on display disappears after back from Color Bar is fixed.
Using Hyper Gamma, a part of high light was not shown correctly occasionally. We fix
it.

V1.21

1. Synchronize clip name with SxS memory card
Clip name in AXS memory card is synchronized with clip name in SxS memory card completely. And The “Clip Name” setting in “AXS Recorder” of the System menu moves to “Clip Naming” of the Media menu.

2. Change Root folder name
Root folder name is changed to the same name as Volume label from CINEROOT when you see AXS memory cards in PC or Mac.
Note: when you insert AXS Memory card which is used by earlier version of R5 to V1.21 R5 for the first time, F55 and F5 requires restoring (Salvage). Please follow and restore it.

3. Optimize fan control in off in Rec mode
We further optimize fan control further in Off in Rec mode.

You had HDMI working with camera in 23.97?? What firmware version? I was on v1.12 and it never worked, now I'm on v1.2 and still not working.

All of them. From day 1 (April) I've sent 23.97 out of my HDMI to my Zacuto EVF. I havent even had a job that required anything else since I've had the camera. I will say I sometimes have to restart the EVF a couple times at first to get it to read correctly.

Interesting I can not get several monitors to work with HDMI unless the camera was set back to 29.97. I guess I'll test again and look deeper into the camera settings menu. There must be some option to display a 2-3 pulldown signal out the HDMI port... since HDMI is not 24p.

I couldn't get my SmallHD to work on the F55 through HDMI. The rental house couldn't figure it out as well. I think it only worked when we used 60 FPS.

That's odd that it doesnt work for you. Both my Zacuto EVF and my Marshall 7" hdmi monitor work fine with my F5 running at 23.98. With the EVF I've found I need to power it up before I power the camera otherwise it won't readily detect the signal.

I haven't updated to V1.2 yet- I hope that doesn't muck anything up.

Ian

Could this be an F55 thing? I wonder if its because I shoot in 4k mode, maybe that's the reason. I will test in HD and 24p and see... thanks for the post Ian.

Correct. No SR support in PremierePro. I imagine we will see a plug-in at some point although I don't know when.
