F5: F5/F55 EVF port protection without additonal top plate?

mmm

Veteran
Hi all,

Does anyone know of an EVF port protector for the F5/55 which doesn't require an additional top plate? I don't need or want the weight and expense of the top plate and just need to protect the ridiculously weak EVF port.

The Arri, ET, Gekko and Solid Camera solutions all appear to require a top plate. I love the Solid Camera setup as it appears the strongest but requires a lot of extra bulk as well.

Thanks

Mike

Wasn't sony replacing the cable, or came up with something regarding this?

Speaking of which, does anyone know how I can get the replacement ND knoby for the F55?

Dennis,

I hope so! How anyone thought the current design was acceptable is beyond me.

I saw mention of the ND filter replacement on the Sony forum, I'm not sure if the process has started yet though.

That ND filter knob would have been okay if there was some resistance when turning it. but in fact you can accidentally rotate it with your pinky by simply adjusting your iris or pulling focus.

We don't have one, but would be happy to make it.

We have been focusing on finishing the initial kit which was targeted towards the bigger configurations. Sony has shown the proposed new connector which is a right angle with the cable exiting towards the lens. I personally would not like that because it will interfere with lens related operations - follow focus, eyeline for marks, brackets, etc. The current connector is the lesser of two evils.

How many takers? ;-)

Carlos, I'd obviously be very interested in a stand alone EVF port protector that screws into the existing mounting points on the camera. If it integrated a compact mic holder, that would be even better!
