F5: F5 + AXS R5 or F55

It isnt much of a money concern as I can always save up a bit more and get something way better. But with these two cameras at such a similar price point as mentioned, its more of the technicals.
Id have to calculate the rental costs of the R5, if its really worth it with the 55. But i guess it is a possibility.

Id have to see some tests comparing the 55 with the SR codec to the 4K to see the difference and if its worth it.
@Dennis, yeah, that means Ill probably be contacting you sometime lol

thanks

A friendly reminder... just because you buy it, does not mean they will come.

Here is an example, and a chance to save over a new one.... http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?310581-Sony-F5-Camera-Package-BARELY-USED

Still not sure I can grasp your math. No matter how you run the numbers there remains more than a 2-3k difference in price between the f5 & 55,in an apples to apples comparison, adding the required basic accessories, I.e. evf, batt, charger, etc. and the current kit price for the F5. But if money is no object as you have stated, then why the discussion? Buy the F55 and be done with it.

The comparison is F5 + R5 VERSUS F55 only excluding EVF or batteries because you will need them either way. The comparison also factors in the AXS media you would need for the F5+R5 combo whereas you do not need it with the F55.

So ballpark $29k for the F55 no RAW recorder.

$26k for the F5 + R5 + two AXS medias.

Yes, that that would be true if it were not for the fact that Sony has a package for the F5 that includes your choice of EVF, Battery, charger, case, card etc. for $19,500. Adding those accessories to an F55 at current price would represent an almost $15,000 difference between the two. Now, I understand that the OP has somehow equated the internally compressed 4k capability of the F55 to the 4k raw of the F5 +R5 but they are not directly comparable. So for the two cams to be on equal footing they would both require the R5. Furthermore, in his last post he indicated that he is more interested in the "technicals" than cost. If that is the case then the OP has answered his own question and brought the dilemma to resolution ... with the exception of ISO the F55 wins on "technicals".

That deal may not necessarily be available in Canada where Michael and I are located, but I agree with what you're saying. The F55 with just an OLED VF is going to cost $34k, never mind some SXS Pro cards, batteries, charger, etc...

I'd actually say the F55 without recorder costs DOUBLE what the F5 package does when everything is said and done.

I agree.
I just assumed that the Sony package would apply to all of North America.

The package deal should great, and if get it for sure, but it is available for a limited time. By the time I am able to order the camera (just before production starts) the deal will be over, so I never considered it.

Although there was the initial notation of a time limit for the F5 package, B&H is no longer showing a deadline. A simple phone call could clarify the duration of the offer.

As I understood it at a press event last week, the F5 package was extended another 90 days to the end of November. But I would still clarify that with a dealer. B&H will be closed from Wed 1 pm until Sunday morning.

Here in Australia, the vagaries of multi-national pricing and our Aussie dollar made the differential between the F55 and F5 as you describe more like $20,000. So for $29K including tax I got the F5/OLED/R5 and a bunch of batteries, readers, SxS cards, etc. I would have loved to have got the F55 with the same accessories, but $20,000 more is a lot of money to find. I may develop buyer's regret, but it's still early days and the F5 is such an improvement over the F3....

This was IMO basically needed. I wont buy a cam until the 2k raw abilities of the 55,5 and 700 are clearly known so forcing you to buy before known firmware updates of unknown quality is/was pretty unfair from Sony

Michael, timeline on the package deal for the F5 has now been extended to November 25th... If you want to talk this out on the phone feel free to PM me.

Like I said, this is too early for me to buy it. We are still in thepre-production stages, and we won't be ready for a little longer. Working on a short and a feature at the same time, so it's taking a while.
I won't make the deadline in November.

Unless if I get a bank loan for the time being?

Forcing? An offer was made for a discount, either accept it or don't, but nobody is forcing anyone to do anything. I would hardly call that unfair.

Indeed force was a poor choice of word but surely you can see the irony of being incentivised to buy a camera one day before a critical firmware comes in to play

(to me the quality of 2k raw is a significant spec of the 5 and 55 which is currently unknown .. And has been put into question by certain f700 info)

I can see your point, but the whole F5/F55 buying experience in 2013 takes a lot of faith that Sony will come through on promised features and firmware updates, so why should 2K be any different? If you want a "finished" camera that has all the promised features, then just sit tight and wait until sometime in 2014. Personally, my camera will have paid for itself long before that day arrives. I have total faith that the 2K quality is going to be everything that we want it to be. Why? because everything else about the camera has exceeded my expectations, or was already a known issue (i.e., audio functions) before I bought my F55. But personally I don't care about 2K anyway because I've moved onto 4K and 2K would be a let down now! :-)

(I'll let you in on a little secret . . . the F5/F55 ain't no FS700. It's like comparing a Yugo to a Mercedes.)

Michael contact Bill Long at Vistek and find out about the deal and how long its available for. If your keen on the F5 then passing up on this deal might be something you regret. Get a loan, use your credit card, sell a kidney. The current deal is maybe over $3000 in savings with the battery, charger, OLED VF, card reader. Add the R5 recorder and that's like basically getting the R5 for a $3000 discount!

I have... I'm still waiting for his reply. He said he will get back to me soon.

The package comes with one SxS card. Its not the Pro or the Pro+ card.
Shooting in 2K on the F5, it will be okay, right?
So, when shooting 4K with the R5, will the SxS card supplies be sufficient for the 1080p or 2K proxies? Or will the Pro or the Pro+ cards be required for that?
