Just a place to throw links.

[edit: Just watched. Looks nice, glad to see somebody with a clue posting early. I had to watch with sound off but heard VO, maybe there's details in the VO about what mode they shot]

No details on any modes of shooting, unless I missed it. They had the camera in Slog2 on the bench, but not sure if they shot that way...

I think their clips are either hypergamma or S-Log with either no LUT (just de-logged via wheels and sat), or hard-clipping LUT applied. I know the camera can do better than this in the highlights if you know what to do.

They shot in 4k XAVC, Rec709 apparently.

I want to see more SLOG2 damnit! Rec709 is soooo last decade.

I like some of the shots, but the IQ seems very camcorder-eqsue. Not very filmic at all. But nice and clean and sharp of course.

That is the best camera test ever. Why do they bother with this naff narrative stuff when Sony could just commission these guys and make a splash. Lets do thinks differently not the same old same old.

The F5 low light test is great! that's just the kind of stuff I want to see.
no hanky panky. Just show what the camera does in very low light.
Mr Heimspiel, If you ever come to Amsterdam your first beer is on me to compensate for all the ones that went into the making of this excellent test.

This exact type of chroma noise or edge fringing I've seen in my F3 plenty of times on hot sources or when shooting sunsets with sun in the shot.

Please say it ain't so with the F5/F55:

Man, you know this. It's how it's handled in post.

Shot last two days with 55, handles highlights fine if you don't clip it later in the edit or color.

I was hoping that the F5 is better in lowlight than the C300. However, looking at the ISO 16000 shots, I have my doubts. Can someone post a side by side low light test of F5 and C300 please?

clipping, footage looks like AF100, meaning similarly ( good! )
could someone please measure 14 stops of lattitude, compare it to F3!

thanks thomas.

i´ll make a stop at amsterdam on the next trip to texel :)

heimspiel felix, I do not have my camera yet but can I have your permission to post frame on Sony Forum site? This information needs to go back to engineers, we should not see chroma aliasing/banding/fringing like this.. at least I feel they need to know and be shown samples.

Please advise.

But it's possible your NLE, whatever it is, did a hard clip somewhere along the line of anything over 100IRE. Because of this, I don't know if it can be sent to Sony. It's that area from 100 to 108 that some of the smoothing occurs on highlights like that.

Heim, that haloing I talked to you about in your Vimeo comments that I thought was the "Aperture" setting in the Paint menu, it was a bug and it was fixed in FW 1.02 weeks ago, but somehow a bunch of us got v1.0 or v1.01. I assume 1.02 and 1.03 were created while the cameras were in transit from Japan.

Upgrade to 1.03, you can find a link in the Sony forum for the F5/55
