F3's mic mount easy to break !?

Hi everyone

I just realised that microphone holder of F3 could be broken easily.

every time I put the mic on I can feel that I can bend it over by one finger.

I can bend it up and down very easy and now I am scared that if I put the bigger mic on it, the part (and related parts) will be ripped off

Does this happen to you guys or it is just me and my camera?

Any one knows how heavy it can carry?

Cold shoe could be an option but the camera already had too many accessories on it.

cheers

The mount is very easy to break. Mine already has, and you can't just get the small insert and rubber piece that breaks. They want you to spent over $200 (Cdn) to replace the whole mount. I just did a glue job with goop and it holds for now. I haven't been using a camera mic much, except on a doc I was on. Its not as sturdy as other mounts.

Mine broke from pressure on it in a small backpack so now i take it off when traveling. The rubber that connects it to the camera is weak and as Nigel said, it is a drag that you can't just buy that.

Have you called and confirmed that. Before you quote repair charges..

Certainly did, at two different sources. I've got more chance getting it repaired by an acquaintance who is a television serviceman. He also made the observation that when trying to make routine repairs on televisions, he generally finds himself having to purchase entire circuit boards at inflated prices. Sony makes televisions too!

I still think it is a good idea to make it flexible BUT it really needs to be strong enough as the camera made for carrying around.

I understand that the contacting joint between the camera and mic mount is small and it will be break easier if it was plastic.

The rubber seems to be weak and cannot hold the mic well since it is very noticeable that the weight of mic (that sony provides) push the mount down and bend the rubber. I can see that even I do not break it by accident, it will be ripped off by the weight of mic eventually.

As soon as I got my Berkey plate I took off the plastic Sony mic holder and put a metal IDC cold shoe on the plate.

Probably contact Sony parts to get the full parts manual if they will even supply it. I can send you a few pages of parts blow-ups that include the mic holder if you want, though it shows individual parts that I don't think they sell separately. I've broken mine twice from placing in a bag the wrong direction. Think I'll try the separate holder via the Berkey plate.
PM me with your email if you want them.

Absolut useless part,
mine was broken second shootin day!
after that, small 5" red magic arm and manfrotto nano clamp solution

I added as many did the 3-ality body armor which gets rid of all the flimsy parts such as the mic holder, EVF, Sony plastic grip.
