So I just wrapped on a 4 day shoot with the F35.
I'll attach screengrabs soon.
We had a prep day where we tested the F35 vs Red One MX. The F35 won because of highlight handling, colormitry, speed of camera start up time (turns on in 10 seconds), workflow, global shutter (we had an intense handheld sequence at the end).
We shot one steadicam sequence on the Sony F3 with s log - if I could have done it again I would have tried to get a friend with a bigger steadicam rig to shoot this sequence vs myself and my steadicam pilot and he could have done it with the F35. Should of would of could of.
The rest of the film was all the F35. The F3 with S log performed better than expected but of course the devil is in the details. First off the colormitry out of the F35 has a better look than the F3 but also of course how it handles highlights.
We recorded to the Atomos Samurai with 10 bit 422 Pro Res HQ again due to the quick turnaround time. We shot with Zeiss Ultraprime lenses - a set of 4 lenses.
The camera performed flawlessly.
We shot interiors and exteriors at a house in Westchester, New York.
Its highlight rolloff is quite spectular.
Even though its rated at ASA 400 we pushed it a lot to ASA 800 and were very happy with the results.
The color out of the camera is truly beautiful.
The motion is lovely.
Excited to start doing a sample rough grade and then see what the editor and colorist do to it.
Low light was never an issue.
We only used 2 800 HMI pars, 1 x 400 hmi, 1 x 200 hmi. The camera has some noise in its image probably because its ccd - but the noise is very, very similar to film grain, which I like to put into the image anyway at the end so it saves me some render time
We put lights and bounced them out the window and had a joker 400 book light we created for key light. Occasoinally we would use some unbleached muslim as bounce but overall the look was very dark and beautiful.
The camera, already clocked in with 1500 hours, never hiccuped once. Performed flawlessly.
Never one issue.
We recorded reference sound into the interface box and it carried over the hd-sdi signal into the Samurai and we just generated time code in the Samurai.
Next I'm curious about the PIX 240 with a AJA sdi adapter and see what happens.
Will do a test on that.
