F35 Overheating Artifacts

I am shooting with F35 in New Orleans. Very humid. When I first pulled camera out from traveling from Los Angeles I had lots of weird pixels and vertical smears, one black balance solved these issues.

I turned fan to auto to keep it quiet but even after 10 mins or so the fan ramped way up but I don't think it could keep up.

Camera was physically hot to the touch.

Black Balance would not fix artifacts. Turn off camera for 10 mins fixed error, I started back up with max fan and it worked.

I guess my point is traveling to different climate don't be alarmed at strange images before black balance, the CCD needs to be set to it's current environment.

Choose Max Fan over Auto when you can if in the heat. I have been shooting for 2 days with max fan now it is fine, the problems happened when I needed to make the fan quieter in too hot (or maybe it was humidity) environment.

Do you travel with a back up camera.

I know Panasonics Varicam, had a deeper service menu that you can get in and zap bad pixels with cross hair targeting. The Sony F3 has this too! When you fly at high altitude your camera CCD or CMOS block becomes most likely to pick up a bad pixel or two, due to gamma rays up at that height. You do need a really good monitor to perform the procedure. You got lucky.

Enjoy your shoot.

I would also suggest that after traveling to a new climate, especially when flying, that you then turn on the camera to let it acclimate to the new environment. Sometimes humidity on the sensor block needs to be evaporated by the heat of the running unit.

Yes Sony F35 has the same service menu. Using the 10x magnification on the 7Q makes selecting the pixel very very easy.

I guess more interesting to me was the moving black blocks caused by the heat. Not stuck or dead pixels, it was black moving blocks.

Did you replace the stock fans with the quieter Noctua ones? I replaced mine and noticed there was less airflow than the stock at same speed setting

i find with a lot of cameras, and even my phone, once the external environment is above a certain temp, the devices have a hard time staying at a optimal temp regardless. i went out to Palm Springs where temps were 100F degrees, and the fans were just blowing hot air on the camera. haha.

might be worth modding the F35 with a larger fan, so it can stay at max fan without the noise.

So I shot nearly a week in New Orleans. The fans certainly would start to ramp up but I never saw the same heat artifacts again. I think it had more to do with the extreme humidity than heat now. The issue happened at first location straight from the airport.

I've also gotten some "stuck pixels" on the 7Q that I thought was from F35 but were not in the final recorded image.
