F35 is too big?

I shot with F35 2 days ALONE no AC! No problem. It was low budget and I want to test if F35 is ok alone. Shot on shoulder too no problem and I have no rig. Why bunch of crybaby complain of size? :crybaby: Camera man become wimps? Very nice images like always from F35. No problem with dynamic range.

I'm assuming 2 things here: 1 - The complaints have always been the F35 as originally used, with SRW-1 recorder; 2 - You didn't use that, but instead some solid state recorder that weighs about 1 pound? If so, I reckon that's the answer

Is not this. People complain F35 is too big also without recorder. Yes I use hyperdeck. But battery and accessories too.

Hmmmm....I suppose the other reason might be that so many people these days are used to DSLR and small-form camcorders eh? If you've been shooting for years with Super 16, Digibeta, HDCam full size cameras it's not so bad. I have the SRW9000 and to me even that's not too crazy - just like a fairly heavy ENG camcorder :)

You gonna buy an F35 then?

Compared to a film camera it's nothing, but compared to most other cameras on the market today I reckon it's still a heavy beast. Kit it out with a big PL lens, a mattebox, wireless follow focus and a field monitor, and you can certainly feel it in your back after a while. Or maybe it's just me being a whimp, hehe.

The reason why complain is not important. F35 is not too big.

I already bought F35.

I personally would never use the F35 without an AC, if for no other reason than with a drama setup I'd just move waaaay too slow for my liking. If you're doing a lot of handheld I also like to have people there to take the camera off/on the shoulder.

I took this thing for a short hike in the wilderness, those sticks are ridiculous for an F35 but the combo was easy to carry and quick to setup. I can start my F35 and be shooting far quicker than a 5D, the biggest disadvantage to this camera is the lack of ND behind the lens. Once you get into changing filters and lenses, needing focus pulled, then the need for an assistant is there.

I used to think the F35 was a bit too big but you get used to it- its all relative after a while anyway and the weight is a big part of why the handheld looks good on it.
Alexa is WAYYY heavier. I played with an Amiria the other day and f35 are pretty close on weight, possibly with the f35 being a tad bit lighter (with the right recorder).

Have a look at my F65 thoughts an opinions, you'll see my feelings on camera weight. For purposes of that comparison, not a huge difference between the 35 and 65.

Size is relative.

But, well if you put it on a scale from 1 to 100, 1 being a Gopro and 100 the biggest film cameras, the F35 is certainly a big camera, somewhere around 90-ish on the scale.

It's a big camera, and I love big cameras, a personal preference. I tend to get steadier images, control my movement better, find buttons/settings much easier, use it more comfortable in harsh environments, mount heavy lenses on, and of course having a big camera certainly helped me enormously when approaching many tyoes of work as I am percieved much more seriously than a tourist with a pocket camera, looks is not a negligble factor, it's sometimes the difference between failing and getting the job done! This forum has truly sparked my interest in the F35 after reading 200 pages in complete enjoyment! I am hunting for one in the middle east to rent and shoot something with. Perhaps it will be so addictive I would buy it instead of a cool new FS7 for my upcoming video business in 2015. I will be searching specifically if the image has something special as you great dps seem to show in your work and your experience with the camera vs other cameras, but it' still a doubt of mine it's just your work that's special and makes it shine and a new FS7/F5 would actually produce better images if YOU shot the same projects with them. I still have no idea.

That's pretty interesting and good to know....

I still want to get my hands on an Amira, but F35 checks a lot of boxes for me still without the costs associated with other systems.

As Ebrahim says, size is relative.

What are the things I'm comparing against? Normally ALEXA. Is the F35 any bigger, really? Not when we've got one of the light-weight recorders on it that they all have now.

Most complaints about the F35 come from the early days with the tape deck. That combination is undeniably massive.

I also direct people to my thread, I put some pictures of C500 setups on there - by the time you've put a separate recorder on the thing they're big and a mess of cables too.

Can't remember the last time I've seen a C300 or 500 naked. They're always built out, anyway.
