F3 used as a run and gun camera on recent tennis shoot..

I use the iris ring on my Nikon adapter and although there are no markings, I find I can dial in the iris I need without many issues.

Same here. And you don't need image stablization really either. Yes it's nice but,.. just be steady....part of the job anyway.

Is there a good lens you could recommend I take a look at, that can be used with the F3, has decent range, and has an iris ring so aperture adjustments are quick and easy.

Disagree about image stabilization, It's a great boost to handheld shooting that many of us have gotten used to after using EX-1's and HVX etc. I can see the difference on my F3 footage especially for a walk & talk

One issue with a non-cicking aperture on the lens adapter (such as the one I am using from MTF) is that if you accidentally turn your ring, you will not know where it was set last, so you may end up with subtle variations in your footage which is really annoying for who ever is going to work on it in post. Clicking rings definitely have their advantage, and in fact is why I never wanted declicked lenses. There are pros and cons obviously.

Here's another quick run and gun clip

Here's another quick run and gun clip

Currently on location producing a highlight film for this years Ricoh's Women's British Open golf championship in Royal Liverpool golf club, and I turned around a short clip for the events website. I didn't have time to correct the colour curves for all shots within this, I actually turned it around in a couple of hours, but again just used easyrig support rig with the F3 and the Red 17-50mm which I have come to adore! The images are so punchy from it and the range is really useful too. Recorded to internal cards with my Sparky S-log profile. Here's the clip, best Sparky - just loving the F3 more and more.. :)
more and more..

Nice stuff.
The Red 17-50 is a great lens, but you tend to end up with a lot of wide and medium shots. Especially at an event like this.

You are absolutely right. As great a lens the 17-50mm is you miss the crunching shots of the longer shots. I may look into a second lens for the longer shots. I actually tried my Nikon 80-200mm 2.8 lens on the f3 but the shots just didn't look half as nice as the red lens so I have left it in the bag. But all the same you can be so mobile with the red and as long as you have access to move around, the range can be very handy. Thanks, sparky
