Quick question so that I don't have to do a test. If I shoot S-Log out to an external recorder can I record straight non S-Log to the SxS card? I kow I can record a LUT to the SxS, but I never tried to record non S-Log to the SxS while recording S-Log out.

You can record SLOG with or without LUT to the SXS card depending on your firmware version, and settings selected in the menu.

But many will suggest that video recorded with LUTs are not "usable" and mainly used for onset monitoring, or proxy files for editing.

He is asking if one can record non s-log to the card and s-log to an external at the same time. The answer is no. You can only record either a "lutted" s-log or regular s-log to the card while recording s-log to an external. You can't record, say, cinegamma to sxs card and s-log to an external at the same time.

...and that's only with the paid s-log upgrade (or the current RGB version of the camera).

If you're using the s-log picture profile with firmware version 1.4 - it's the same signal no matter where and how it's recorded. (someone check me if I'm wrong)

No you can't choose cinegamma 1, or Rec709 for sxs but you can choose rec 709 lut and hence "non slog" in a sense.

But you need to run at least v1.3 for this to work.
