F3: F3 Remote Trigger? Same as F5?

I was wondering if something like this would work for starting and stopping recording on the F3? Generally will start stop devices for the F5 work on the F3. Thanks in advance.

I don't believe so. The F3's remote port is for serial communication. A simple contact-closure will not trigger recording. I wrote about my solution here: http://edcarlson.com/blog/?p=529

The Sony PMW-F3 remote port is 8 pin hirose I believe, and the resources I can dig up say it's protocol is "Sony 700 Protocol (PTP)" My best guess is it's a RS422 or RS485 serial port.

So, the F5/F55 remote you found won't work.

You're better off wiring into the handle like edinc90 did, or potentially rigging something in front of the ir port... although that's not without effort either.
