I have a question for those that have the PIX240. I have mine hooked up via SDI from my F3. I am also running to a Marshall and Panasonic monitor for client viewing. I can't seem to get the audio out via SDI to work. I get audio to the PIX, and I get video out via SDI to the other monitors, but no audio. I can't seem to find a way to get the audio out to work via SDI.

Ill check it out whenever I get power back to fire up sdi monitor. No electricity since Sat and they say maybe Wed.

Meanwhile, check manual p19 and p37

F3 users:
Anybody is using pix240 with F3 and powering it from camera's swit battery by d- tap adapter? Running time for both camera and pix240 from one fully charged swit (series 7) battery?
Second question: what is the capacity (in minutes) of one 64GB CF card when set on highest resolution?
Thanks.

That's one thing I loved about the Nanoflash. You barely noticed any battery life difference, maybe 10% faster drain by adding the Nano.

My Ki Pro Mini is much more energy hungry. I've taken to giving it a battery of its own as it takes a much higher voltage. When the KPM needs a new battery, I can put the same battery to power both the F3 and TVLogic monitor for another 1.5 hours. It actually works as a nice rotation.

Hi,

I am looking into investing into an external recorder for my sony f3...I would love the recorder to do 2 main things, recording of s-log in 4:2:2 in prores codec and recording of 1080p 60frames...is the PIX240 capable of doing that? if not...what are the current external recorders that are able to do that apart from gemini and cinedeck which are both a bit too expensive for my taste....

The Pix 240 will do S-Log 4:2:2. Will not do 1080 60p. Nor will any other single link recorder on the market.

That said, there are computer capture cards for desktop and laptops from AJA and Blackmagic that are 1080 60p and 4:4:4 capable costing anywhere from $600-$2000.

I could be mistaken, but I believe I read somewhere that with batts it is in the 3.9 lb range.

hi, greatins to all, i am new in this forum, but read with interest since many month.

there is some confion in my "brain".

I am using F3 s-log, at the moment recording SxS 8 bit 4-2-0.
I also use BM Multibrige Pro. this item is not abel to recorde F3-slog.
As i understood F3 s-log requires RGB 4-2-2 or RGB 4-4-4 (1,5 or 3 GB) recordings. BM Multibirde Pro only allows YUV colorspace recording.
MB Multibrige Pro works fon when recording F3 SDI YUV mode, but this is not s-slog.

I am interested to grad up to external recorder, ether Samurai, BM HyerShuttle or PIX 240.
After severale questions to Atoms (Samurai) and BM (bocause above issues) i was informed from Atomos-support and BM-support, that Samurai and BM Shuttle are not abel to record F3-slog RGB 4-2-2 or RGB 4-4-4.
Sound devices i did not ask.

Can you help me, who has practical experiances. Does Samurai or BM Shuttle indeed not record F3 s-log mode?

thanks for information

Samurai, Pix240, Shuttle will all record a 4:2:2 S-Log from the standard SDI port. The upcoming 1.3 firmware (still waiting for 1.2-- c'mon Sony) will allow 4:2:2 out of the dual link A port and a LUT'ed signal from the SDI port. There are some web reports on this board and others of issues with the Pix240 and S-Log. I have a Pix240 but do not have S-Log. As soon as I have the chance to test on S-Log configured camera with my Pix240 I'll have a better indication.

I have recorded S-Log 4:2:2 to the Shuttle on Abel's camera.

Anyone using this recorder with Premiere CS5? I'm looking at getting one but use Premiere primarily and wondering how you're finding the workflow editing with pro-res or DNxHD files? Does it edit and export as quickly as other codecs built-in to Premiere? Any input would be appreciated.

Cheers

PPro 5.5.2 is currently a problem with the Pix240. The 1.02 firmware update (which was the shipping version) corrected an early bug in which PPro CS 5.5 did not recognize audio from pix. That worked through 5.5.1. The PPro 5.5.2 broke the fix. SD has indicated to me that it is a high priority and will be fixed with the next firmware release.

Thanks Ned, so other than the firmware thing how well does Pro-Res or DNxHD edit in Premiere? Would it be slower than working with the XDCAM Codec from my Nano? Or would it work the same?

V1.03 PIX firmware was released today. This introduces some great new features (inc. record start/stop SDI flags from Sony, Canon, Alexa, Panasonic; reads and triggers from Sony HDMI timecode etc etc) and fixes quite a few bugs including the audio problem in Premier Pro 5.5.2.

Pix 240 Excellent for the money!

Pix 240 Excellent for the money!

It's pretty simple maths. In the end I chose a Pix 240 because the cost of a Gemini (once you've bought all the necessary accessories like larger capacity SSD drives, professional batteries etc) is well over $8000. That is over half the cost of a PMW-F3 camera. Then, in order to take full advantage of 4:4:4 (etc), you'd need something like a Mac Pro with a mighty fast processor. I have no doubt the Gemini is excellent, but you'll pay lots!

Meanwhile the Pix 240 worked out to $3600 (including 256GB SSD, 2x common Sony L batteries, pix caddy and a couple of 75oHm cables which I sourced separately.) The 5" LCD menu is very user friendly, the device is light and I'm glad it's not touch screen. Instead, the buttons are solid and definite when you press them. it also comes with a power cable. If it had been an F35 or F65, then a Gemini or Cinedeck would be worth the money. Anyway, that's only my opinion, before someone gets upset. S-Log still works on the Pix 240 and overall the difference it makes from using SxS cards is incredible!
