F3: F3 owners who've sold or are selling their camera?

Hi, there seems to have been a lot of movement with the F3 used market this year. Of those owners who have sold, or planning to sell their F3 I'm sure others might be curious to know what route you might have ended up going.

Cheers,

I'm still delighted with the F3, and when the Convergent Design Oddysey offers me 1080p60 recording out of the camera, I think I'll be covered for 90% of the shoots I do quality and features-wise.

...however I may (depending heavily on the price) be persuaded to move to the Amira when she arrives - thought I'd probably do better to bolster my lighting and grip gear first.

I've just seen so many F3's hit the marketplace, i'm a bit curious what people are doing.

The Amira sounds interesting, and so does a used Alexa for around $30k and maybe even less next year the way things are going.

I sold my F3 and F800 after having the F55 for a couple of months. It is nice to be back to only one main camera again instead of a pair. No, the F55 can't do everything that the F800 could do, but usually projects with those needs are the type of shoot I'm not really interested in doing anymore anyway. The F55 is quite a big step up from the F3 in more ways than I expected and has expanded my horizons with 4K, XAVC, and soon, high frame rates. No regrets.

Nice story Doug, its true the F5/F55 is still not everything previous cameras have been but the good thing is its still evolving and keeps changing almost every 3 months. People can complain the camera was released too early but really is hasn't been all that long and so far Sony is delivering on their word.

I have no regrets going from F3 to F55 either. I really want interval recording, MLUTS for slog2, and some kind of proper exposure tools but I know they are coming - and that's all that matters - they ARE coming.

It's funny because we are both waiting for different things. I don't need MLUTS because I prefer to view unadulterated SLOG, and I will still only use zebras for exposure even when they add the other tools. What I'm waiting for is external audio level controls, AES/EBU audio input, 240 fps, custom clip naming, and whatever other tricks they have up their sleeve. But I do agree with you on interval recording, that's a big one I'm waiting on too. The camera just keeps getting better and better.

I'm committed to going with the F55 and almost pulled the trigger on a demo camera, but the project that would have let me afford it fell through. In the mean time the F3 still delivers.

Hey,
i tried to hold on to my F3, but finally had to realise that rental is too slow here to afford keeping it...
though this camera is wonderful!
just had a shoot with my f55 up in the mountains, and sometimes i wish i had the f3 with me for the convenience of a fold-out vewfinder and weight considering the budgets of some projects...
might even be that i buy one back down the road ;-)

for now the money that came in with the sale is already planned for:
Redrock Wireless FF
Bigger Thunderbolt Raid (for 4k50p eats up space big time)
New Imac

so...

btw: looked up some projects that i did last year with my F3 and must admit that 99% of the people will not tell the difference in 1080p25...

F3; exercise in devaluation

Hi, there seems to have been a lot of movement with the F3 used market this year. Of those owners who have sold, or planning to sell their F3 I'm sure others might be curious to know what route you might have ended up going.

I eventually sold my F3 with accessories for $5300 privately after advertising on eBay at $5999. I still have the Pix 240i and the Alphatron.
I'd go off onto some editorial rant, but I'm pretty spent these days. :lipsrseal

1x PMW-F3L Camera Head with stereo microphone and PL Mount
(with remote control, shoulder strap and USB cable)
1x CBK-RGB01 S-Log installed
2x SXS 32GB Flash Cards
1x SBAC-US10 card reader
2x BP-U60 batteries (22 charges each approx.)
2x Swit S-8U62 batteries (with D-Tap outlet)
1x Sony BC-U1 battery charger

F5 arriving any day now!

My F3 is currently for sale in the marketplace but I don't bump it very often as it's still renting.
I have a few clients who've become used to the workflow, and it's an easy rental for them.

I'm renting so many other cameras these days that owning a single system is no longer as convenient as it once was.

I've got my F3 on eBay if any Aussies are interested (but I will also ship overseas). LINK. I have the F5 with R5 now so it's time to move the old beast. It's a shame how cameras devalue so quickly. It seems a lot more dramatic than the Betacam days where there was more stability in the markeplace. You either to buy right at the start of a new camera's introduction or wait a couple of years until the next big thing is coming, and buy the older model.

When I received my F5 in April I immediately put my F3 up for sale. Obviously the market was saturated and price's were hovering around 8K w/paid S-Log. As the camera had already paid for itself I wasnt aiming for a huge sale nor was I trying to dump it for nothing. A couple of weeks later I locked a sporadic 40+ day shoot that after the first day the producer decided we needed two cameras. Thank god I hadnt sold the F3. It's now gone on and paid for itself nearly 300% and the F5 has paid for itself as well. I had no foresight in all of this happening but Im glad it hadn't sold.

At this point it's like my 5 year old EX-1, it's not even worth selling and ya never know when you might need it.
