F3: F3 Newbie

I don't think there are any sub $1K recorders which can do the dual link for 60fps?

You'd be better of just buying a whole new F3 with the RGB upgrade if you really do want 60fps from an F3

Agreed. I found an upgraded one because I wanted to use the smallest recorder available (Black Magic Video Assist,) and power via d-tap Sony batteries.

It's being months since I've been here due to health reasons. Though, during this time I was able to come across a production house in the LA Area that's selling a Gemini 4:4:4 for $425.

I'm hoping once I get out of the woods, I'm able to get that.

BTW, Ben, I've being digging through the forum and found some of the work you've done with F3, Nice! That's what I'm aiming for when I start making stuff to happen with the F3. Love to have C300MKII or now the C200, though the F3 is good enough for now.

P.S. it seems the F3 found some life at AFI, since I've following the #sonyf3 tag in Instagram, and I see they use that camera to shoot their projects. I have to say the images being captured, don't disappoint, and look really close to the Alexa.

Just make sure you have a good supply of the memory cards that work with the Gemini. The 1.8 inch SSD that they used are smaller than the standard 2.5 SSD and may no longer be available.

Came across this short that was shot on the F3 in 2015. Its a pity that it doesn't have any audio or subtitles since its in Korean. Though, the images speak for themselves and just shows that a person really needs to know how to light and later in post color grade the S-LOG footage coming out from the F3 to make it shine.

That looks very nice. Even today the picture out of the F3 looks great. If you already have a recorder a used F3 with the full RGB sLOG upgrade still is a bargain, if you're looking for a professional, full size camera and don't need 4k.

I agree. That's why I went with the F3 instead of the C100. I won't knock the C100 since its a beast of its own, though F3 still trounces it at 2018 now entering 2019, especially in the image department. This short was shot in 4.2.2 10bit and still looks great. It just speaks on what Sony was capable of doing in 2011/2012, though somewhat lost their way with the F5/F55 and on since I've shot with both cameras, and the images coming from those cameras don't have creamy feel of the F3's.
