f3 LCD screen not even in the ball park

I went out to Jackson Hole on Saturday to shoot some test footage of White Water Rafters. One thing I notice was my LCD screen wasn't even in the ball park of what my footage looked like. When I was looking at the footage it seemed like the saturation and Iris was pretty good, but when I viewed it on the computer or off of a Ref monitor the footage was all blown out and quite Milky. I realize that the LCD isn't all that great and a Ref monitor is what i should use. But the LCD wasn't even close. I would hope to beable to get it some where in the ball park. any suggestions? is this a isolate issue with my camera? I haven't changed any settings from what they were out of the box. I don't really want to have to Hike a ton of Gear down to the river. Ideally i would like to beable to get it close visually and then rely on zebras and histogram to fine tune.

Any help, ideas, thoughts, and opinions would be most greatful.

I've found I needed to set it up with a monitor next to me to match and ended up raising the brightness quite a bit. My problem with the F3 and the Ex-1 was that it was showing me much more contrast than was really there on sunny exteriors so I was compensating with iris changes that were not necessary. That could be a similar issue. i didn't find my footage milky , in fact it was better than the LCD showed but not as contrasty which is the same direction you're seeing.

I always use zebras for exposure but they don't help for judging contrast and my TVLogic (which I highly recommend ) is not as useful; in bright sun so I do rely on the LCD with a hoodman Loupe.

Just added - If like me your issue is in daylight, then set-up your LCD with a monitor in daylight in contrasty situation. I thought mine was correct then needed to raise the brightness again.

The LCD is ****. The viewfinder is terrible.
The small TVlogic is sharp but colours are way off also...
This is the biggest disadvantage of the camera.

I always take my TvLogic as a reference on colour, if there is no proper colour monitor around. The difference between the LCD and Tv Logic is like night and day..

I find that the TV logic has more tools (waveform, luminance alerts, etc.) but I never seem to get the colors close. What's up with that? Maybe the new FSI?

I find the TV Logic a bit too warm and have adjusted the setup accordingly. Then its pretty good. They may not all be the same.

I noticed the same problem, Mike. I simple don't use the LCD screen (particularly outside), however after a lot of messing around the view finder, I found the following settings translated into near correct footage on the computer and then on the television: Backlight: High, Mode: Color, Contrast: +44, Brightness +44, Power: Auto
