Hi,

has anyone tested the hdsdi output from sony f2 straight to aja kipro...the other day we were shooting in 720p 25p 50frames per second (s&q mode) but couldnt capture
the originial slow motion directly into the aja ki pro...
in fact we found a half way solution...we could capture the original slow motion only when the camera was in playback mode....basically what we have done
was first capture everything in slow motion on cards and afterwards playing out to the aja ki pro and capturing it in 10bit mode on the aja...does this make sense at all?

has anyone a better workflow for capturing true slowmotion out of the f3 to the aja kipro recorder....we were using the firmware 1.1.... we are extremely happy with the picture the f3 delivers and the way it offers multiple simultaneous monitoring options when working on set...

we are planning more slowmotion shootings on the f3 and we would like the best possible options for capturing 10 bit slow motion footage out of this camera....

the thing that bugs me the most is the lack of the slowmotion in full 1080p mode straight onto the sxs cards...

for the price tag of this camera it should the first big prirority in the next firmware update...does anyone agree on this one?

best regards to ya all f3 users...

Doing an in camera playback of recorded S&Q slow motion for the purpose of then recording to a Ki Pro confers no advantages over doing a Pro Res conversion in post. The recorded video stream has already been compressed to XDCAM-EX HQ 720 25p, so playing it back over HD-SDI into the Ki Pro does not remove the compression.

S&Q mode should only be used for in camera slow motion recording.

Recording externally for slow motion is slightly less intuitive. Set the camera frame rate mode to 720 50p, or to 720 60p (You'll need to switch to NTSC). At this point, if you press the record trigger on the camera, you'll record plain 720 50p - it'll record 50 fps, and it'll play back 50 fps, so motion is in real time.
!
Now, set the Ki Pro to match the camera setting (50p or 60p). Recording and playback will be done in real time, slow motion will apply in post. You're sending the Ki Pro an uncompressed 50p signal. This is perfect!

Once you get the files to post, you simply need to "conform" them to 25p. This is a lossless process that can be done in Cinema Tools. It just tells the computer to not play the frames back as quickly, resulting in slow motion, matching the frame rate of the rest of your project. If needed, any internal SxS S&Q recordings made at 50p can also be conformed.

If you use 60p for this process, the slow motion will be even slower.

And the F3 offers the best 1080 60p possible - *uncompressed*. Your Sony Handicam doesn't do that! You just need a proper external recorder.

i've set the camera for internal s&q before, the ki mini will automatically record 720/60p. it can't record what doesn't exist, and doesn't have hardware scalers so it defaults to that.
