F3 comes to Canada

After watching from the sidelines for the last 4 years here's my first post. The F3 is has arrived in Canada, and I'm the first one to see it and get my hands on it. Sony has loaned it to me for the weekend to shoot some demo footage. Along with their new primes 35,50,85 T2, P.S has loaned me Cooke S4 21,50,100 to play with.

It looks great from my first couple of hours playing with it. Finally that hybrid of what I did with the Brevis, Letus and Pro 35 adaptors I own, and the DSLR work over the last year. It looks like it will have great flexibility for smaller projects, and the ability to also work on bigger projects as well.

Here are some pics, and I will be posting some of those tests in the next few days. The Sony event is next week when they are showing the cameras for the first time

Excellent, PLEASE please please shoot footage with the 50mm Sony PL lense with the SAME shots as the Cooke 50mm lense with the same T stops. This would be amazing to see side by side, and please do shoot a lot with the Sony PL mounts as for thats what comes in the F3K kit and we sure do want to see what those look like.

I would be interested in where the event is as well, and if you would be willing to let some eager but respectful local filmmakers to drop by and check things out.... I understand if it's a no on that one. Either way would be interested in knowing more about the event and where you are shooting, not really specifics more what city(I'm in Toronto).

thanks.

The Sony event is in Toronto. I believe there's a VIP only on Tues night and then Wed and Thurs they have the displays open. I'll see if I can find the flyer. They did mention that they were heading to Montreal, and Vancouver in the coming weeks.

I'm planning on shooting as much as I can side by side with the 2 50mm. I did one quick shot of each but need to do lots more to see how they are. For the two guys in T.O send me an email and we can chat tomorrow.

Are they the prototype, unfinished lenses? If not, lots of feedback please about build quality and breathing etc. As well as image, of course. Throw in some IR blacks if you can.
Thanks.

Thank you Nigel for the heads up on the Sony's F3 show 'n tell tour across Canada. Sony lenses look better than the dull grey monstrosities they were showing under glass at Interbee only a couple of weeks ago. Like Giuseppe I am very interested to see how they perform against the Cookes.

From what I understand the Sony lenses I have are the production models. They have all the proper witness marks unlike previous pics out there of the prototype and from fist impression they feel heavy and solid. The focus barrel is a little stiff on all of the lenses. I'm assuming its because they are brand spanking new, and they have the contacts on them for lens data. You can turn that function on in the camera and it will give you info in the LCD of what your focus is set too.

I have a very short time to shoot with them and I'm going to try and get a few tests in but really my first goal is to shoot. So I'm off and will let you know progress.

From what I see in the photos you have posted they don't have actual witness marks, they just have evenly spaced out scales. Is this lens data the same s4/i s5/i data from Cooke lenses or is this their own type of lens data? If its sony's own version where does the data get stored with the images, is it meta data stored within each frame/clip, and how do you access this information if its sony's own data?

Also I sent you a PM let me know if you got it.
