I stuck my Shuttle on the back, attached to the top by a black hinge from Lowes. Allows me to flip the unit up to get to the battery and stuff.

Hi Richard,

Very interested in this attachment setup you have. If at some point you could take some snaps from other vantage points to give us a sense of how it is attached to the camera, the hinge mechanism and so on. You get a vague sense from the photo but not a clear picture of the mechanics of it.

I''ve had my HDS2 attached a variety of ways. I am really concerned about the micro bnc connectors getting broken. I had a setup with the connectors pointing down and thinking about going back to that config.

Heres a diagram of my "hinge method". It completely renders the viewfinder unusable. It doesn't put too much pressure on it though, but it might...I personally don't really care about the viewfinder and will probably get around to removing the whole VF assembly soon.

I used to have the shuttle on rods but sometimes I want the rods, follow focus, and mattebox removed from the camera (like steadicam shots and stuff) and this allows the shuttle to be attached to the camera itself and allow for less rods. The ability to swing the shuttle up is the best part...easy access to the battery and other controls. This also requires the use of a 90 degree adapter to the a/b port of the camera. It makes the whole rig very weight balanced with or without the rods.

This thread inspired me to take some new pics of my rig.

Richard, you gave me a couple of ideas using some of the rails adapter bits from Berkey Systems. I don't think this setup with the hinge would work for me. My camera sees a lot of Steadicam use. With whip pans and the possibility of the unit moving to one side would seriously throw the rig off. Good idea nonetheless. Appreciate your efforts in making the diagram.

Andrew if you are really set on hanging the shuttle from rails you can look at a zacuto cheeseplate that has rail mounts on the top and bottom. It would allow you to put the plate on the back of the camera and then continue with some rails at the top of the plate so the shuttle deck can hang.

I put my Shuttle on the right side of the camera to make it more compact. Used some parts from Berkey to attach the Shuttle directly to the top plate.
