F3 arrived? Post it up here!

Rec'd almost a year ago, is it too late to post?

I'm joining the club. Just got the camera and put some stuff together just to make it work. Lovely footage from this camera!

Doorbell rang this morning with my (almost) new F3, I've only ever rented cameras before - so for a first-time video camera owner, I think I've done rather alright by myself!

I've got a pretty special bit of support gear on the way that I think a lot of you will be interested in, so I'll post on that in some depth when it arrives.

Still a little angsty that I didn't opt for the used F35 that was going for roughly the same price, but realistically I just don't have the lights and support gear (or the spare funds to acquire them just yet) to get the most out of an F35 just yet.

I just got the support system straightened out for my F3 to handle my Cooke 20-100mm T3.1 cinema zoom lens.

The lens weighs twice what the camera weighs and it's shifted the center of gravity a few inches in front of the PL mount. In a sense, instead of a lens hanging off of a camera, I have a camera hanging off of a lens.

I'm loving the image out of it though. (Yes I had the FF on my zoom ring. The lens has a motor mount and I wanted to see how it felt. I moved the FF up to the focus gear afterwards.)

There's a lot of life left in the ol' girl.

The Fuji and the F3 are a match made in Heaven.

I totally agree. I thought the Cooke would slow me down a bit, but I find that lenses like the Fuji 19-90 and Cooke 20-100 have a broad enough range that on many shoots I never need to change the lens.

With all the attention on the new F's (deservedly so), I'm still finding a lot of use for my F3:

Hey Editman - what are you using for a VF? Have you got a Samurai hiding the other side of the body? Sparky

I have an Alpahtron and a Marshall 5.6MD, both good monitors and if I had to pick one it would be the Alphatron.

On the other side I have a BM Hyperdeck Shuttle mounted - bolted into the Berkey top-plate. It's a good place to have it and I never have to take it off. Even the cable to the Shuttle runs slick. Had the Samurai but actually like the Shuttle way better thanks to it being so simple.

would you be able to share a picture from the other side showing how you have the hyperdeck shuttle mounted to the plate? What codec are you recordig to it out of interest Editman? I am using a Samurai at the moment, but it might be worth looking at switching to your setup. Best wishes, Sparky

View from the top shows how I've mounted it best. I put a right angle BNC adapter from the A SDI output so that the cable runs close to the body.

That looks very tidy Editman. That's pretty much how I mount my Samurai but I have to use a noga arm. I am going to get a friend to develop something so I can attach it to my Berkey plate so it sits there nice and snug. It is powered by a d-tap cable, so it's light and fairly slim as well.

It is tidy! I use a cheap 12 V rechargeable battery attached by velcro to power the Shuttle. The shuttle draws very little current and there's always about an hour worth of recording even if the battery should go empty. Working on making DIN 1.0/2.3 to BNC cables with angled connectors to make cabling slicker but mounted the way I have the DIN connector points straight down.

I also have a V-lock solution that powers the camera and whatever I put on the camera but I prefer a smaller and lighter rig.

Rig of the day shot: F3+ Cabrio quickly becoming my favorite combination.

We rented three of these and a Red Pro Zoom for our four camera shoot yesterday.
You can see a Microforce at the bottom of frame, on the opposite side of camera I have a Heden motor on the lens.

We have had the F3 for almost 2 years now, but we have received the Angenieux 30-80mm.
We decided to make an image to share with friends.
