F3: F3 and canon Ef lenses?

We have a Sony f3 and it came with the 3 prime lens kit. We want a zoom for it. We have some nice canon Ef zoom lenses. What adapter would we need to buy to get it to work on our f3? The canon lens does not have manual f stop control. Is there a device that lets you adjust iris?

Jacek at Optitek has an EF adapter for the F3.

And lenses don't effect 'crop factor', relative sensor size does. The F3 has a roughly S35mm-sized sensor, compared to 135 still photography film, or a 'full-frame' camera like the 5D, the crop factor of S35mm is approximately 1.5 - but that goes for any lens, not just EF ones.

Haven't heard much good about any of the Kipon products. Your options really are the MTF or Optitek. I would definitely go Optitek. You get what you pay for. I originally bought the MTF F3 to Nikon adapter for close to $500. It was unacceptable. Sold it at a loss and bought the Optitek which was $1000 less the group buy discount. World of difference. Because you are dealing with the electronics in EF lenses, the adapters will cost far more than the mechanical Nikon adapters.

I have and use the MTF adapter with my set of Canon lenses; 16-35/17-55/24-70/70-200/24/35/50/85/100. Everything works fine except the 85 F1.2 II which doesn't work with the MTF. I don't know if the Optitek works with this lens or not but everybody says it's the the better adapter of the two.

I sold off all my Canon EOS primes and zooms after Birger 2 years fiasco!...

Both current EOS/F3 adapters are not suitable for me (as Birger prototype was at one point) because they need external power or in case of mtf that hideous, ugly, cumbersome control box (!!!)... As I remember, Birger had the coolest solution of having the smart EOS adapter getting the power from camera mount it self. And all commands were on the side of the adapter (as Optitek)...

So, sold all Canon stuff. Got Nikkor instead... Never looked back!
Even got the D800 as a "B roll" camera (sold 5D MKII)... Happy camper here...

P.S. Optitek Nikon mount, for the win!

I did consider to sell my 5D3 but it's such a phenomenal DSLR camera and I couldn't part from it and I don't shoot enough to justify having two sets of lenses.

Anyone with the Optitek knows if the 85/1.2 II L works?

Yes it does, my favorite for focus pulling with the Optitron BTW.
Here it is on the F5 during NAB..

I understand completely!
For me, I had EOS complete lens set for years for my still photography assignments (since first full frame 1Ds), but when F3 Came along there were no option for using Canon lenses and I started "collecting" Nikon glass first with mtf mount (far from ideal!) and after with excellent Optitek Nikon solution. Then after getting really disappointed of "quality" of my Canon zooms on 5Dmkii's 22mp files I sold all zooms only to sell off primes last winter.

Yes, I had 85/1.2 MKII. Beautiful lens! Heavy and cumbersome big time. But I hated that "electronic focusing" thing! Damn thing needs power all the time... Did I say it was heavy, even for 5D MKII...

Problem became "acute" on my last overseas trip. Packing F3 with dedicated Nikon lenses did not Leave any room for Canon 5D MKII with dedicated Canon lenses. I had to take only Canon body and use Nikon glass with adapter. Great for video, but not that practical shooting stills on the go (manual everything...). So, decision was made! Canon gotta go. The fact that Canon always drag thier feet when introducing "new" features in their DSLRs did help a lot...

I can confirm that the L-series 85mm does indeed work with the Optitek. Proper power and control to iris and focus.

What we are trying to do is get an affordable zoom on our f3 for run and gun shoots. We love our primes, but they slow us down in the field when we don't have the budget, time, control, etc.... We already own a good canon ef zoom lens, so we thought an affordable way to go was just buying an adapter for our f3. Now we are realizing a good adapter is expensive. What other solutions have you guys found to make your f3 faster to use in the field without having to change lenses using a zoom?

Core of every F3 system is a lens adapter (if we are talking "affordable" still lenses)... To make it more versatile, you have to bite the bullet and get a proper (expensive) one what ever line of lenses you want to use. Unfortunately, that is a reality. All other solutions are more "operator related". Simplifying lens change on a location has only one solution...
