F23 Noise at 0db gain?

So the gentleman who bought my Sony f23 is getting quite a bit of noise in his image across multiple gamma tables at 0rb gain using a 1/50th shutter. I personally never ran into any significant noise problems with the camera at that low of dB signal, so my question is why is he getting it and what can he do to resolve it?

hes using digiprimes and recording to an atomos samurai blade via the if box and importing into Sony Vegas and/ or davinci

he sent me a video clip of someone sitting on a couch using hypergamma 4 and other than it being very dark (poorly lit), the noise is very apparent. Just from my experience behind a camera, it really seems like a user error, and im trying to be patient and guide him in the right direction. One big thing I noticed is he said he is recording 23.98 but the file he gave me was running at 29.97. I know unneeded noise can be introduced if Psf is not encoded correctly.

Hes also running a completely different recording setup compared to what I am using and cutting on Windows with Sony Vegas or Davinci.

Has he shown you images? Something I’ve discovered over the years, “noise” can be very subjective and what one person considers a noisy image, another considers clean and vise-versa.

He has and the noise is there, but his lighting is very poor IMHO. Simple education is if you dont properly light a CCD chip, its going to give you noise.. the better exposed an image is, the better the signal to noise ratio is right? I would share the screen grabs he sent me but I dont have his permission.

Exposure level is probably the problem. Post some stills so we can all judge Mike... otherwise it’s a toss up...

I had similar experience selling F35, the buyer kept sending me screen grabs and asking why Macgregors footage looked so much better. Cinema camera doesn’t make you cinematographer I guess.

I shot footage of the moon at night with my F23 for a feature documentary, looked great. The project was called Apache Warrior, I should probably get a copy considering it’s full of F35 footage. That particular production mixed fs700 with F35 so it was a bit of a frustrating experience in the end.

Mastering Exposure and lighting and knowing the camera inside out does. Share some grabs of Apache Warrior Yachacha... would be awesome to look at some.
