I can't speak for Junior or EC Pro, but I do know that Sony engineers responsible for firmware are in Japan. I honestly doubt they will be at a demo in NYC.

If there will be any Sony rep can you ask them if there's any possibility to change focus ring behaviour by firmware? I have no problem with fly by wire focusing as long as focus ring movement is constant not like right now- completely unpredictable.

Hi Ned, thats correct, Engineers from Sony Japan is in charge on the firmwares, Joe Schmizzi will be representing Sony for our event. Hopefully he will have more information by then. Ned feel free to invite Mopictive to the event if you want to.

Please record this event and share with us afterwards.
That's our plan. Working on it

I'll add that to the list for Sony for the event.

Would love to see this after it happens as we are trying to decide between on a second camera at work (would function as B cam to the FS7 when needed, and as my A can when I go on shoots). Another fs7 would be nice but may be asking for a bit much so would like to see how the fs5 matches and compares to it since it dkesnt have the cine EI mode or maybe the a7rII

Sony really needs DCI 4K in the A7s. I am a Nikon user but no DCI 4K in the D5 or 810. New Canon 1DX MKII has DCI 4K so I may have to become a Canon user. Body only price is down from the 1D highs.

I suppose Sony wants to sell us another FS7 as a Bcam as even the FS5 does not do DCI 4K according to specs on http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/product-PXWFS5/ . Just ridiculous. And with firmware 3.0 fewer FS7s will be on the resale market.

Y'all be cool,
Robert

Robert,

What are your reasons for making DCI 4K so important? I admit that I always shoot DCI 4K with my FS7 and F55 because I can. Why not? But 99% of the time those extra pixels provide no advantage whatsoever and just get cropped off in post. Why do you think they are so important that they would be the deciding factor to choose one camera over another? To me it seems like a big stink about nothing.

Hey Doug,

I like it and more productions are going that way. You may have seen some commercials in the last few years that were distributed 2.35 or 1.85 and letterboxed.

For a Bcam I want the aspect ratios to match what the FS7 can do. All the other parameters I can work around. It would be nice if the A7s would be the one as I like it's ability to see in the dark. Might be useful.

Hope you're well and good,
Robert

Wider field of view when scaled down and used on 16:9 timeline with 2.35 aspect ratio bars. I deliver projects like that all the time. I'm missing 4k from xavc-L and 2K options from FS7 as well.
