F-bomb

First let me say that this section of the website is my favorite I really enjoy watching peoples work. That said I would appreciate it if when you upload stuff that has language in it that you can't write in this fourm. That you warn a guy. I'm not suggesting censorship or anything, but a little warning would be nice.

Many times I watch these clips with my kids who also enjoy seeing artists at work and getting ideas for their projects. Maybe Just a little "R" Rating or something

Thanks

That is a pathetic reply. I hope you meant it as a joke.

What he's asking is not at all unrealistic. Actually, I've noticed that most members are pretty good about giving a heads up for material that's not kid-friendly or workplace friendly or whatever.

It is extending a pretty basic courtesy to warn viewers of content that might offend, and I think the mature members here have no problem doing that. After all, the person viewing and possibly critiquing your work is doing you a favor.

For everyone else, i.e., the two previous posters, I'm not so sure if you'll get compliance. I'd like to think though, and I don't think I'm wrong, that they are not indicative of the majority of the active community here.

I think that most people DO infact alert people of the content in thier video's if there is something that some would take offense to. As i warned in my newest post in the screen grabs section because my film featured a girl cutting her wrists. HOWEVER i dont think people should have to put a warning about using the words
****/****/*****/etc because most adults can tolerate that language and accept it for what it is. I would say the MAJORITY of people here are 17+ and as far as im concerned, if they can drop an fbomb in a rated R movie (which is 17+) people should be able to do it here. This isnt china, our internet isnt censored. Having said that, i do think people are responsible for warning other users. Many forum's use NSFW (not suitable for work), NSU18, (not suitable if under 18 *which is worse than nsfw) in thier forum topic tags. Perhaps we should start doing it here a bit more.

He's watching it with his children. You might teach your children to curse, smoke and drink but most of society frowns on that. Frankly I find your calling him a pansy because he wants to bring his children up with class a bit obnoxious. It would be nice if there were warnings but since you probably won't, then I suggest to Chris to preview them before you let the kids watch.

Actually, in many ways, our internet IS censored. Case in point, did you really mean to type "poo poo"? I think not. :)

The original poster's point is perfectly valid. Certain words have been censored to be replaced with "poo poo" on dvxuser.com for a reason...I'm pretty sure this is not because Jarred is a prude and hates to swear :) I think, and I could be wrong, that the decision was made because this is a public, community site.

Nobody is going to be forced to write "R" rated or "NSFW" or "not for kids" but come on, it's a fairly simple courtesy!

Chris-I think alot of times people are pretty good about posting wether or not there is harsh language in their stuff or not. If you're watching it with your kids, I can understand why you'd want a warning of some type. My suggestion would be for you to watch it first and make sure it is suitable because I don't think everybody leaves a warning, and I'm not sure whether I believe they should have to or not.

As for this:

haha, www.cartoon-network.com is the site you'r looking for

Unfortunately there are some kiddies that troll the web and you can't do anything about them, which is further proof that you might want to censor the stuff yourself before showing your kids.

I have been closed mouthed about this for a couple of months because of this very reaction. If it is okay to use this kind of language then why do you type shi* instead of the real word?

I am not suggesting that anyone change anything about any of thier videos. And I do appreciate those who give a heads up when there is that type of language. I have no expectation that anyone will take this seriously or even start doing this, if they haven't been, but I had to say something for my peace of mind.

And d4v1dz33, right back at ya big guy. It might help.

why is this in the footage section? this should be in cafe or something. threads posted here that do not contain footage are way more common than unexpected f-bombs. lol.

i have no opinion on this matter but my observation is that you never know what to expect here as it is not censored so don't watch with your kids unless you've seen the clip...

you guys need to control yourself. I swear all the time with my friends but not in public. The sensor system i engaged is just to make a joke out of it.. people learn pretty quick.

b/c when you type the real word it automatically replaces it with "poo poo" so typing shi* or SHlT works better...

jaustere, thanks.

For everyone else, as we've said before: conduct yourselves here as if this were someone's living room, not a locker room, please.

I would just suggest you watch the clips before you show your kids. The internet is not exactly a safe place for children to watch every clip that comes up....

d4v1dz33, while that does not personally offend me, I can see how it would others. I find it a childish stunt on your part. As a parent, I can understand the argument that you should watch the content of something before allowing impressionable children to watch it. On the other hand, I would expect some class from the members of this forum. In the movie I just completed, the f-bombs occasionally fly. I have chosen not to post those clips. Had I, I would not have had any problem including a quick disclaimer that the clip included language that might not be appropriate for work or children. It's not going to kill me to make that statement, nor do I feel particularly censored.

A little aside

A little aside

Along the same line but in a different lane....
Wen we went to watch the screening of the films submitted in the Austin 48 hour contest, we were not told anything. The "film" before ours was just plain offensive. The language and subject matter were in no way something I would take my parents, much less my neice, to see. I am all about "artistic freedom" and such, but I was really bothered by this.
I mean, there were a lot of kids there because they had been in our film and their families brought them and their brothers and sisters. Most of our crew brought their parents. No one expected this kind of material and there it was.
What do you guys think? Should the organizers have taken into consideration the possibility some of the audience might be offended and made some kind of statement?
There was no way to preview any of the entries.
